Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Oh Ruthy....prayers are with you and all your family!!

They charge an arm and a leg for it, you know...you give it for free, they jack up the price.
See if you can't find a local blood bank. Lots of times the hospitals prefer to use a local source.
Here in Oklahoma, our local blood bank was the FIRST to get blood to NYC after 9/11. The reason? On-site testing facilities. The Red Cross had to send it's blood to Texas to be tested. Our National Guard flew the blood to NYC.
All that blood the NY Red Cross collected? Had to be tested in Texas.
Unfortunately, they needed very little of the blood that was collected...but the Red Cross kept asking...remember? They made a fortune off it.
Here's the article about OBI's blood drive the day of and after 9/11.

You didn't describe yourself!
To: RosieCotton
Yeah, the static.
In the old days, when I was a kid, the icicles on the Christmas tree were made of aluminum, before mylar was around. When you'd walk by, to the amusement of us kids, they'd stick straight out at you and shock you.
Our cat was also amused by this and responded to being shocked by eating the aluminum icicles. 'Course he couldn't digest the things, so a day or so after being eaten, the icicle would, as kitty walked around the house in a dignified manner, be hanging decoratively out the other end of the cat from which it was ingested. A strange sight, but a routine aspect of Christmas in those days.
I have tried my best to relate this anecdote in a polite manner, maybe it should have been addressed to a dwarf, though.

OK, getting a haircut, back in awhile.

I'm too shy.

Posted on your thread about your neice. Boy I sure hope she is OK and just bein' a terrible teenager. I am worried because her friends don't know where she is. If they are helping with flyers, I would think they believe she is missing.... but has anyone really grilled them?
To: Luis Gonzalez
Yeah, also not to mention the mango pollen that is around right now.

Oh lord, I can' believe we didn't put you to sleep a thousand posts ago.
To: 2Jedismom
Ahhhh.....well now that is interesting.
I am eligible to donate again (missed my Monday appt.) but our work as a different blood mobile come here. It's here now as a matter of fact. They are the Memorial Blood Center. Not sure how they are though.
I think they might be here tomorrow too. I'll check that out. I might just use them then. Would be more convenient, that's for sure.
Thanks for that info.

Thanks for your prayers. They are invaluable to us right now.
I'm torn between wanting to throttle her or hug her when she gets home!!
To: Luis Gonzalez
1200 and counting!LOL!! At that rate you'll be caught up by, uh, maybe Christmas!!
Morning, Luis, so glad you decided to take up residence here in our nice cozy Hobbit Hole!
To: HairOfTheDog
I saw you there, Hair and thank you.
Michelle's dad can be quite formidable when he wants to and he has really put the screws to her friends.
Michelle's mom has been the "good cop" in this, and has assured all of them that they just want her home.
To: Sam Cree
the icicle would, as kitty walked around the house in a dignified manner, be hanging decoratively out the other end of the cat I bet those old icicles could be cleaned up and put back on the tree! - They don't make them like that anymore! ;~D
To: Corin Stormhands
Powell replied, "Well, that may be true. But unfortunately for you, they're all Marines!"What an awesome comeback!!
To: Dawntreader
Ask them! Ask them what the difference is!
Oh man, did anyone see Leno last night?? I tell you, he had some guy on there...a sit-com guy, he had me rolling I was laughing so hard.
He said "I'm going to explain this war to the young people in this audience" then proceeded to say it was like, if their mom came up to them and said "In FOUR MONTHS, I'm gonna search your room for weed." He said you could be sure there wouldn't be any weed in the room...it would be over at your friend, Sudan's house.
I tell ya, I was just crying I was laughing so hard. I wish I knew who that guy was!
To: RMDupree
I'll be praying for you and for your family and for Michelle.
Hang in there!
To: Corin Stormhands
"You can randomly read about 25-50 posts and be pretty well caught up."
You mean that this is sort of like missing three and a half years of General Hospital?
Fifteen minutes into your first episode back you're all caught up?
By the way, and as long as we're talking, what was it exactly about that scene the movie that you didn't like? I don't remember the exact post, but it was around 16,200 something.
