The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Did any of you hear Rush ranting about stoopid genes yesterday? BWAHAHAHAHA!

No, I didn't. And for a sort of related tangent...

But I have been reading about nutrition a great deal lately, and the role it plays in the formation and development of children's brains, behaviorial and emotional disorders, degenerative diseases, etc. While there may or may not be a 'stupid gene', diet and overall health during development may affect gene expression. So, my theory is: garbage in (chips and soda), garbage out (stupid, inane emotion-think). And the skulls of stoooopid people really are full of mush- 'cause it didn't develop right.

need coffee... but I gave it up for lent...

Are you series? The diet I've been on is so restrictive, I've not found anything I can give up...

Heard this on Paul Harvey this a.m.:

Seems that at his press conference in the Middle East an Iraqi reporter said to Colin Powell, "Mr Secretary, isn't it true that only 13% of America's young people can even find Iraq on a map?"

Powell replied, "Well, that may be true. But unfortunately for you, they're all Marines!"

Or feels warmish...probably in the teens, but that means 30's later today.

Rosie, I hate to break it to you. I know 30 degrees is warmer for you.

But it is not "warm."

It's all relative...compared to -30, 30 is downright balmy!

Hey Rosie, I noticed that just in the few days I spent in cold weather, and I think Syracuse gets moisture from Lake Ontario, that my skin really dried out and got scaly, plus I always had blood in my nose.

I was ready to get lotion, or something equally weird, but, actually, how do you cope with that, does your body just adjust after a while? I noticed the grocery stores up north (Wegman's is my favorite) have staggeringly huge quantities of cheese for sale, but supposed that was just for the vitiamin D everyone is missing out on because of the lack of sunlight.

Morning everyone.

My niece is missing so I am beside myself with worry. At first we figured she just ran away again, but now it's getting ridiculous. Not even her friends have heard from her.

I've posted a thread on the news side. Please keep it bumped and keep your prayers going. I'm sick over this. MY NIECE IS MISSING

Good morning Luis. There is no need to read all 15,000 posts. There will not be a test.

You can randomly read about 25-50 posts and be pretty well caught up. We'll give you a run down on the "players." You know:

g'nad: Stinky Dwarf a.k.a. Marine
ksen: Skivvieless Gondorian
RMDupree: Hobbit Lass and Cook Extraodinaire
2Jedismom: Homeschool Mom with whistle and red sneaker dependency.
JenB: Middle-Earth Historian. Elf-friend. Has been known to flit.
HairoftheDog: Hostess, horse friend, animal expert and occasional hall monitor.

That's it for now. I'm sure some of the others will either describe themselves or offer assistance regarding other HHDs.

To an extent you adjust, I think...but I still have problems with the dry air in the winter. I think we all do. I have a humidifier I run full time at home, but I still struggle to keep the humidity at a nice level, and here at work, it's really, really dry. End up with a bloody nose all the time and super dry skin. But it's the static that gets to me! Ugh!

I'd never donate money to the Red Cross, but they can have my blood (I'm a regular donor). The blood is used to save lives after all. It's not going to fund any weird programs so I don't mind just giving blood.
