The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, we watched FOTR ER and just visited with the boys. Steve will have them at boy scouts (if they have it, considering the weather) tomorrow night, then they won't see him again till Friday evening because of school.

I've been working on my profile page.

I'm really going to bed now.

'Night Sis!

Howard Shore has won 'Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture

All right!! At least he got something after the shut-out from the Oscars!! And I guess this is a bigger deal because these are MUSIC people voting on this one!

The Occoquan is about 8 miles north of us... most of the river below the damn is a deep draw with steep sides... until you get to the Potomac...

Yes... we live on a hill... a big one...

Thanks for the concern...

hullo... good mornin'...

Gods and Generals was... all right...

Somebody please get Ted Turner out of the Civil War movie business...

Again, having read the book, I was disappointed in some aspects... It could have been called The T. J. Jackson Story... I love TJJ, but the book was about how West Pointers and friends were forced to choose sides... they did nothing to build on the trajedy of best friends parting ways to war against each other...Gettysburg did a better job of portraying that...

The Battle scenes were accurate, though they should've gone to New Line and asked to use Massive... the CGI they used was just awful...

I'd've done it better... but then nobody's gonna give me a billion dollars to do it...

Good morning!!!

Steve hauled me out of bed this morning to get the garage door open! It was completely fused to the ground with ice!!

Well, we got it open, by God, even Matthew helped, but it tore the seal-like thing off the bottom. Sigh. I imagine they are replacable.

It's 9 degrees outside and I could have stayed comfortably in bed, but had to put on a pair of rubber boots and haul on a garage door.

I think I have a hernia now.

I'm just pretend griping...it was all kinda fun and certainly different from the norm!

Good morning! Well...we got lucky. Missed the ice we were supposed to get. We only got a little bit, then it warmed up and melted.

Now it's cold again, but not bad...7 degrees currently. Having it be above zero is a fine thing!

Yikes! Is it time to plant already?

It's getting close to planting spring crops (peas, spinach, lettuce, etc.) I usually miss it because I've been slack getting the ground ready.

I need to get some tomatoes and peppers started. I plant from seeds. It's still a bit early yet. Tomatoes and peppers like hot weather so even if you get them in the ground in April (average last frost is mid April) they won't grow much until it gets warmer.

I haven't had much luck with container gardens. I think my containers aren't big enough and I forget to water. They probably have all that stuff on HGTV.com.

Well, we did shoot a lot of them, the year before last...with a pellet gun...but then we had a nest underneath our pepper plant mulch and we all just started liking them! So we're going to try fencing in individual beds. We have 8 wood-framed beds. Not all will need to be fenced. They don't bother the peppers, or okra and such...

A good cat will take care of that problem.

:( I left my coffee on the counter when I rushed out the door this morning.

I've done that a lot of times...trying to remember my coffee before I've HAD my coffee is rough.

A couple of weeks ago, I set it on top of the TV for a sec while I got my coat on, which I KNEW was dumb even for just a sec. Then I forgot it. So...I spent the whole day worrying about the cats knocking it over and onto the TV. I got home and it was still there, but when I went to grab it, *I* knocked it over. Sigh! Can't win.

But I have coffee this morning!
