The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hi. I had a lousy afternoon, had to entertain my grandmother and that was hideous. What's up?

Giving Zulu her bath.... in the middle of dying and everything else, she still itches like crazy and needs her medicated bath.

We have been warned that the bright yellow thing you speak of will also be here today.

It didn't last long here, so it must've come your way. When I took the dog out this morning it was warm and breezy. By the time everyone was dressed and ready for church we were in a downpour. After church, the rain had stopped, but it was cold again...sigh...

We cross the James River on the way to church. There's a dam just to the west of the bridge. It's probably about 20ft high. This morning there were ripples in the water, but you couldn't see the dam.

Richmond used to get flooded out downtown on a regular basis. Then they built a floodwall. I think the only time they've closed it was after Hurricane Fran.

I'm going on to catch up on the day's posts now for your viewing pleasure...

I'd put in some peas if the ground wasn't so wet.

Yikes! Is it time to plant already? I want to do a container garden on the deck and then do some landscaping in the yard. Mostly plant a few bushes and some annuals. We'll fertilize and throw down some grass seed, but the real work I need to do on the lawn will need to come in the fall.

Where can I get good details on a container garden for vegetables? I'm thinking cherry tomatos, cucumbers, etc. Can I do that? Will you hold my hand? I R also ignorant about plants.

My cat weighs 18 pounds... just picture me trying to get this cat off of my head!.... was like the bunny in Monty Python!

I don't think I've seen a picture of your kitty here, on or off your head. 18 pounds! Is this some special breed or just a fat cat?

Just a fat cat!

He is very nearly blind now too, from Glaucoma, which I think contributed to him attacking me... He attacks the dogs too when they make noises that scare him.

Anybody heard from g'nad? I'm not sure how close this is to him, but it's in his neck of the woods.

Hair, we got one like that, too. She has a pretty fixed routine, minimal touching prefered, our old neighbors' daughter has her brother, exactly the same size and temperment, but she's ours and I think (I hope) in her own way she is happy or at least content.

When he first showed up, as a stray, he was quite standoffish... liked to be pet but not picked up.

He has warmed up quite a bit now, and always sleeps on or near me at night. I think cats find exactly the kind of contentment they want to have.

My brother's cat likes to watch (and get in the way of) any project we are working on (especially in the shop)... but doesn't want to be touched. just wants to be nearby.

Hello! Joshua got up and booted me off the computer earlier, wanted to play his Jump Start Preschool, don't you know and had to take advantage of Dad being down for a nap just like I was trying to do! Sigh.

I wanted to get peas in too. We got the bed prepared and covered with a good layer of hay, but that's all we got to. We are fencing in each bed with about two feet of chicken wire, stapled at the bottom of the raised bed frame...see if we can keep the bunnies out this year. We lost so much to them.

Well, that's good news!

I didn't watch them...figured they'd be nothing but one big "peace rally".

I'm going to bed. I woulda already if I weren't watching the dishwasher...it had the coffee pot in it and I wanted to make the coffee for in the morning...

It's futile...Steve'll just make it and drink it up from me.

Sigh. I'll never get ahead in this world. LOL

No - there is/was practically no anti war stuff on the show at all... not spoken. One guy said "I think the only thing everyone can agree on is that I hope this war goes away as soon as possible [OK, I can agree with that!]. Sheryl Crow and one other singer had "no war" on their clothing, but sedated. And nothing else was said. Somebody in charge kybashed whatever Sheryl and the whoever else had planned. Somebody they had to listen to. I don't know, I wouldn't put all these musicians in the same demographic. Ya got all 'walks' in music, from jazz to rap to pop to heavy metal. It isn't the same generic demographic as Hollywood. There are plenty of liberals for sure, but I wouldn't expect them all to have been on the same bandwagon anyway.

I actually think both FR and DU are equally disappointed. There was just pretty good music and very little controversy!
