The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I think he stopped just short of 'blow it out your shorts'.

I couldn't do it from the office, but I just went to the site and deleted all of my files. They aren't gonna get to keep my work either.
To: Corin Stormhands
Wow, Corin, that was a strong message.... sorry you didn't get the job.
I had the wonderful pleasure of testing our product on Netscape 7.0 today. Now I feel all yucky, like I've been reading DU too long. I need a shower.
And it's the weekend! Hurrah!

Something the cat dragged in, or lifted from The Onion, or something:
Peace in Middle Earth in our time
MINAS TIRITH (Gondor News Network) - Thousands of peace activists took to the streets of Minas Tirith and other cities of Middle Earth today to protest what they termed a rush to war with Mordor.
"We need more time for diplomacy," said a key member of the Middle-Earth Security Council, Saruman the White. "I am not convinced by the evidence presented by my esteemed colleague, Gandalf the Grey, or that the Dark Lord Sauron presents an imminent danger to the peoples of the West."
Many of the people protesting war in Mordor agreed with Saruman's remarks. "Sauron says he's destroyed his Rings of Mass Destruction (RMD) and that's good enough for me," said one fellow carrying a sign that said "Elrond is a Balrog." Another demonstrator urged, "Give the RMD inspectors more time. There's no reason to rush to any judgment just because Mount Doom is belching lava, the Dark Tower is rebuilt, and Osgiliath has been decimated." A third protester piped up, "I haven't heard a single bit of convincing evidence connecting the Nazgul with Sauron. I think they destroyed Osgiliath on their own initiative without any support from Sauron. Besides, it's understandable they're angry with Gondor. We haven't done nearly as much for the Orcs and Goblins and Easterlings as the Nazgul and Sauron have. It's understandable they throw their support to them. It's our own fault really."
As the protesters continued their march through the city, they chanted, "No blood for Mount Doom," voicing a common sentiment that the leaders of the Western peoples are really seeking to get their hands on the powerful Mount Doom, where the One Ring of Power was allegedly forged.
Gandalf the Grey was unavailable for comment. A spokesman said he was in an undisclosed underground location, which sources have revealed is codenamed: Moria.

Oh to give your heart for a dog to tear. This was not a good day for Zulu. I almost took her in to have her put down. I just couldn't yet, but I can't deny that there is no joy in this face. Today she was miserable. Tomorrow we shall see. Once in awhile she still has great days. This April she would be 17 years if she keeps going, which is a notable life for a dog. I doubled up her arthritis meds, but I don't even really know if that is it... I wish I had something stronger.

Heh.... That got posted over on the news side, it's purdy funny!

The only problem with man's best friend is that they don't stay with us longer.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Yes.... there is a quiet in the house tonight.
Gidget, is watching TV in the pic.....
To: HairOfTheDog
Hugs for you and Zulu. Critters steal your heart. Even 17 years isn't long enough.
To: HairOfTheDog
Oh, Hair, that's such a sweet pic of your friends...

Thanks... I really thought I was more ready for this! - I think I am just dreading the day she actually has to die. I don't think it will be tomorrow, but it will be soon. I will be relieved when it is over. She had a good life.
She went to college with me. When she goes, I will officially be old. Nothing more will linger from my youth!

She went to college with me. When she goes, I will officially be old. Nothing more will linger from my youth! You have a good heart. You'll never get old. And you'll always have the certain knowledge that you gave her the best life a dog could live.
I know a woman who was given an Arab gelding for her 10th birthday. He lived to be 43, and she was still devasted when she lost her oldest friend in the world.
To: HairOfTheDog
I wish I had more words of comfort to offer you. Losing a friend is never easy, even when you know it's coming. When it happens, be thankful that her pain is over, and take comfort in remembering the many good times that you shared with her in her long life. And know that there are friends who understand and sympathize with your loss.

(Change is inevitable. The only thing we can control is how we deal with it.)

Hair: just read your post and can sympathize; my old lab, Gifford, had bad hips and arthritis in the later years, the vet gave him cortisone with the warning it would likely shorten his life, well, he couldn't climb the stairs and he didn't want me carrying him, he had slept just inside the door of our bedroom, (for you to trip over) for 12 years. So we gave him the shots, and they helped a lot for a while, eventually they didn't and we could tell he hurt all the time, we took the walk to the vet and said goodbye to my best hunting buddy (I wouldn't get another hunting dog while I had him, so I sold the decoys and shot trap instead). He looked up into my eyes, his were filled with hurt, as were mine but my hurt was emotional, his was physical. The only thing I could do to end his physical pain was to steel myself to my emotions. Needless to say, I'm reliving it now, and tears do flow, now as then, but I know it was for the best. And in a few years, Samantha, well she's 11 now, but we will do it again, they give us so much love, so completely, well, we'll do it again. Our hearts go out to you and Zulu.

We'll be here with ya, sis...
This has been the most unusual thread...we've seen death and soon, we'll be seeing life, with g'nad's little one on the way...
She's a sweet dog, you can tell by the pictures.

Well, this will be a sad year for pets, because Logan is pushing 16 and not far behind her, though he has been vigorous lately. Part of me wishes they could go together. They have been together all these years. But those dog beds won't stay empty long. Gidget needs friends, so there will always be more dogs.
I have given up on the idea of a high-priced German Shepherd I toyed with last night though.... I will go save a couple dogs from the pound. I don't need a status dog like that anymore.
Osage, I know what you mean about hunting. Logan and Zulu were a pair. Zulu scared 'em up, Logan brought 'em back. When Logan got too old to hunt (He aged first) I gave it up. Haven't fired my shotgun since. It ain't hunting without the dogs.
To: HairOfTheDog
I'll see you when I see you this weekend. Good night.
