The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hi, Bear, didn't hear from you in awhile, glad you are OK. Pretty cool sunset, comes with a rising moon.

It is 5 degrees at the moment.

CS: thanks, I thought it was something like it, never saw any of the big musicals on film or stage, listened to the records though, and played various versions of them in band throughout grade school and high school. Maybe it was playing the umpteenth version of them in school band that killed any latent interest I had in seeing them in person or in summer stock.

Well, I had to look some of that up. The Mrs. and I have always been interested in drama. We do a lot through church now, but see shows when we can.

I saw the broadway tour of Annie, and I saw My Fair Lady with Marie Osmond. Both we really a lot of fun live.

Yeah, I was just imagining what it was like when we were in the ice ages, as Cro Magnons, when global warming had not even begun. Makes me think animal furs might be pretty warm, since my down filled vest is not making much of a defense against this cold.

Hunting large animals with spears while in freezing weather must have been something.

I am having a nice time though.

Hi Sam! I've enjoyed reading of your encounters with the snow in Syracuse... it reminds me of the university I went to in Northern Michigan, lots of "lake effect" snow there as well.

At 5 degrees, the moon and stars ought to be brilliant up your way tonight... take a look if you get a chance!

We used to see a lot more when we lived in DC. We saw Les Miserables before it went to Broadway. We also saw Shogun which never made it (it REALLY stank).

When I was in college I worked in NYC over Christmas and actually got to see Yul Brynner in The King and I. I was in the nosebleed seats, but who cares.

I've seen a few other stars touring. I saw Tyne Daly in Gypsy and Lorna Luft in Guys and Dolls.

You could see lots of stars last night, was even colder then, got to 10 below or something. But now the storm from further south has gotten close enough to cloud things up.

Apparently lots of telescopes are sold here because of the very clear skies this arctic air can produce.

I am having a great time seeing a glimpse of a real winter, and amazingly, my daughter does fine with an entire winter of it, even having grown up in Miami. She is a sophomore now.

10 below? Yeesh!

I hope you remembered to bring in your brass monkey...

It's amazing what a person can get used to, either by choice or by necessity. Growing up where I did, I never thought I'd be able to tolerate weeks of 100+ degree weather, like we sometimes get in Texas... but now it hardly fazes me.

Hearing about 10 below makes me feel a bit homesick, though.

Well, done with the movie. It wasn't the old version, and the girl who played Marion was pretty bad, but Matthew Broderick's cute and I like the songs.

More snow. And more snow. Yuck.

I thought the girl had a good voice, but she didn't look the part. I think I've seen her on the Emmys. Broderick did better towards the end.

Still sleeting here. We're supposed to get sleet and freezing rain through the night. You guys got the snow, we got this, but it's still coming down.

It's stopped here for now. We've had mostly sleet. It's not as pretty as the snow but it's better than freezing rain. I'm watching The Godfather on AMC. Michael Corleone is going to settle a few scores in just a little bit.

Good evening!

I'm in a terrible fix. I have recorded on my very old Packard Bell Matthew's sounds from when he was a baby. Like him saying bye-bye when he was first learning to talk, and "mama" and "Dada" and his first sentence that he learned to read when he was three!

My CD-Rom is broken and my "A" Drive doesn't work...so I am having to email each file to myself...takes a lot of time. Any other suggestions?

Heh.... I watched fro a few minutes.... I agree on Broderick, he is a cutie, and I agree on Marion. She wasn't right, but I never heard her sing.

I switched over to the Simpsons. The 300th episode celebration!

Well, I'm going to bed...it'll take all night for these emails to download with the 14.4 modem, so I'll see you in the morning.

Good night!

Good night! If you are saying that all your methods of copying the files off the machine are broken, I don't think you have other choices.
