The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Looks like they're getting ready to start again. Is there any more rain in the area?

Here are some more pictures of Lil Freeper with Big ol Freeper in the snow. She posted these on the Northeast Storm thread. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/844605/posts?q=1&&page=201
Is that a quilting ruler you have there measuring the snow?

Yup, looks like the race will be stopped for awhile, if the radar is anything to go by.

It's very overcast here and we've had a couple strong showers. I'm about 85 miles south of Daytona.

We gots heat! We gots heat!

It wasn't too bad. Worst part was the $100 service charge for making an emergency call. But he replaced the filter and cleaned it out a bit. Said we're due to have it serviced, which we knew.

Still sleeting here. Jr. just went out to play with friends. He was going out with just a sweatshirt ("I can't move with a coat on") until I said, "put on a coat or stay here." Then he was all the way out to the street when I called him back.

"What?"

"SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!!!!!!!"

For sail on eBay: One slightly used 13-year-old. Dog optional.

Glad you're warm, Corin. I understand the snow has moved north, so we're getting your leftovers, thanks so much.

Well that's better than having to buy a new unit!

It's still sleeting here which is better than freezing rain. We're on the 2nd rain delay at Daytona.

Good evening everyone...

Had a very pleasant day today... Rose and I went to see the movie "Daredevil" this afternoon, and it was pretty good. Lots of action and fairly faithful to the comic book on which it was based. Afterwards, we drove past the comic book store we used to shop at regularly (when money got tight we had to give it up) and were surprised to find them open (they used to be closed on Sundays). We went in and picked up some comics (first time in 18 months); then we left there, did some driving around, and finally wound up at a bookstore, where we did more browsing and a little buying. At last, on our way home, we saw a pleasant sunset on one horizon and a big orange full moon rising on the opposite horizon.

All in all, a pretty good day.

He apparently doesn't know he's not a Broadway actor either. It's not bad, but I gave up on watching all of it. I can hear it in the other room.

Sounds like a wonderful day!

I woke up, put horses out and fed breakfast, took a nap. woke up. took a nap. woke up. watched the rain. made some coffee and put hot cocoa in it. cleaned stalls and tidied and swept the barn. wormed the horses. took a nap. took a bath. contemplated dinner. that is about where I am now.

I love the Music Man. I'm just not thrilled with this version. Give me Robert Preston and Shirley Jones any day.

Forrest Tucker toured with the stage show and I presume did it in New York. I don't know if he did a film version.

Interestingly though, Forrest Tucker was in Auntie Mame with Rosaline Russell in 1958, then Robert Preston did that role in the movie version of the musical Mame in 1974 with Lucille Ball.

Hair: ABC is showing a new version of The Music Man tonite with Matthew Broderick as Professor Harold Hill. It just ain't the same.
