Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'm getting ready to leave for the Freeping of Raleigh this afternoon. Give us a full report, OT! Pictures if you can get them. A link if it's reported on FR.
God bless you! You're our HH "Hero of the Day" today!

How did you fare with the weather last night? We got a nice gully-washer.

Hullo Sam! Sounds way too cold for my blood.
It's currently raining here, but we're supposed to get ice. I'll report in tomorrow about where the tree/branch lands this time...sigh...
Glad you're having a good visit. Also glad you got the boots!

Did you say "High Anxiety?"
To: Corin Stormhands
I'm not installing anything else here until we upgradeThat's probably a safe bet, considering what you told us about your system earlier. FotR game recommends 750 processor WIN 98/2k/me or xp DirectX 8 Sound card 800 MB Hard Drive space
To: Corin Stormhands
Man, I hope there will not be too much ice, then.
Take care everyone, see you guys later.

Good morning and thanks for the breakfast! I was up till past two last night.... (I think I had two cups too many of coffee during the chat view!)
So I woke up at six to feed the ponies, but like a sloth, went back to bed, where I slumbered until 9:30! - Unheard of! - Absurd!

2JM; as usual,it was not a general rain pattern; Downtown KC got nailed big time, 3-4 inches in about 45 minutes, I-70 on the north loop was flooded, full of stalled cars etc. Firemen got everyone rescued though.
Out south, we got about an inch, nice thunder and lighting show at 1 a.m. Quite windy, from the north, a tad unpleasant but right at freezing so far so good with no ice.
I was down in OKC right after the tornado, we had been working on a road alignment study along Mustang Road. One of seven we were working on for ODOT.

OT, I know what you mean about the chat locking up. We all had troubles last night! And we had lots of chances of turning back, but we didn't. We stayed on till the end, Dawntreader and I, even java-chat problems must pass!
To: Overtaxed
Wow! - You are going to a Freep! - Cool! stay off the road! - travel only by day!
To: Scott from the Left Coast
And very early on in the view too...having met Gidget I have the feeling that well before the Prancing Pony, she was curled up on something comfy and snoring away.Yes, she catches a nap between points of interest in the film!

Glad your storms weren't too bad last night!
I may complain about the long days of rain up here, but there is something to be said for climates where nothing severe of any kind ever happens! No tornados, no hurricanes, no extreme heat or extreme cold, only occasional snow and ice that doesn't last very long.
To: osagebowman
The night those torndoes came through, we watched them head right toward us. They hit some areas just northwest of us, and the alarms went off in our town. We took the boys (Josh had just been born the prior October) and crouched down under the step in our garage. Steve had taken blankets and pillows and the baby bed mattress and put it down to cover up with. Had we suffered a hit, it wouldn't have done us much good though.
Steve was part of an assistance team that went down from our church to the OKC after those bad tonadoes. The church took an 18-wheeler of supplies and it was Matthew's first experience with giving sacrificially...he gave some of his toys that were still in "like new" shape that he still liked but that he was really too old for. He was very proud.
Anyway, Steve could barely even speak of the experience when he came home that evening. The national guard let them into a neighborhood that was completely gone. They went in to gather any items they could find to be sorted so that people could sort through them later. The pavement was even ripped up.

2JM & HOD: 2JM, I bet you were proud of both of them. I had a set of pre-T aerial photographs and went along marking red x though the ones that were gone.
HOD; The rain makes for a beautiful countryside though, when I was in the woods in Oregon, we discovered that 'heaven' was a dry pair of socks. Yet just over the mountains, a whole nuther country, a dry one.

I'd get to the part where it says it's logging me in but I didn't see anyone in the chatters list and nothing I typed showed up.That happened to me once, OT, and Hair told me to click on the enlarge page icon, then refresh the page. I have to do that everytime I log in to chat, but it works like a charm, now!

I saw the aftermath of the CatholicGuy thing. JR was basically tellin' Polycarp to take a hikeAre you talking about Polycarp's getting all hot and bothered because CG was banned? I responded to P and told him I didn't think it was because of anti-Cath., but because CG was spouting a lot of anti-War and anti-Bush nonsense. I told P that CG ought to take it over to DU where they'll appreciate because Freepers don't.
To: SuziQ
Yeah, that was the thread. PC had a tendency to overreact.

Hi All. We went tubing, and it was a ton of fun, but now I have a headache and tons of homework. Sigh.

You went tubing? In this weather? Or did you mean on snow?
To: Corin Stormhands
On snow, silly dwarf! It was cold up in the mountains but man, was it fun. I'd go again but the trip is so expensive for us all.
