The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

People will jump on the bandwagon of the side that is winning.

Yes. Half of them with their hands out...

Do you think duct tape and plastic would work on our borders?

LOL!!

I think we should use the duct tape and plastic to package up the idiots at the UN and send 'em home...

Double LOL!!!

I tried it and it just keeps opening Real-Audio which just does terrible, constantly having to "buffer" and such. I want to listen in Windows media, but can't figure it out.

I got as far as the one with the exploding toxic waste drums when my HD died.

Oh, you're talking about the PC version! LOL!! I was talking about the original Atari game! *cracking up*

Hi Ruthy, good morning.

I think the HHD's that live up here really need your huge breakfasts, it seems like you really burn calories when outside in these kind of temperatures.

Yeah, my Florida blood is having trouble with the cold. My daughter is used to it now, said that when it got up in the 30's a couple weeks ago, she was so delighted with the "warm weather." I am having a good time, though.

I notice that my topsiders are not doing very well here, though, might have to go get a pair of sneakers.

2J will set you right up. Buy two pair and get a whistle for free...(and maybe cookies...)

LOL at mental image of you slogging thru snow with topsiders on! :)

Get some toasty boots for those frozen feet! You can always use them when you're working in the yard.

Hi Sam, I see you are you enjoying the cold Northland... It is pretty isn't it.

If you need sneakers, all you need to do is whistle, right 2J?

There should be a link for winamp, try that.

I have the 56k connection at home and the RealPlayer link works well there. Maybe there's a lot of people listening. Whenever I'm on there is about 30 other people listening.

Maybe your RealPlayer needs an upgrade.

Kevin, do you ever wish you were still living in New Hampshire?

Just looked out the window and saw that it is snowing again, even though there is no more in the forecast until Wednesday.

I'm kind of amazed at all the static electricity that this kind of weather seems to cause.

Ugh...tell me about it! It's because it's sooooo dry. Cold air doesn't hold much moisture. In addition, most heating systems dry the heck out of the air. It's baaad here at work. I handed a paperclip to a guy earlier, and you could SEE the sparks clearly, even in bright lighting. We both dropped it...

I have a humidifier running constantly at home, which seems to help. (Though it's STILL only in the 30% range, humidity wise.) Good for the cats and dog and my instruments...a really dry wooden instrument can crack badly!

Scary thing is that it's supposed to get colder for the next few days. Possibly lows of -35 or so Saturday night

AARGH!! We were at -6 last night, and that's cold enough for me, thank you VERY much!

Yeah, if I put my hand near my hair, like to comb it, it all stands up, it's even more out of control than usual, what there is left of it, that is.

Drove through here on the way up yesterday, a beautiful spot.

The picture was taken in the 40's, but it still looks pretty much the same. It's called the Delaware Water Gap, is in New Jersey, amazingly. Very rural and lovely.

Bye everyone, going out for ahwile, take care.
