The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

That gives me hope since otherwise they spend more time annoying the heck out of each other. I have 2 brothers. One, I spent my childhood trying to kill. And he spent his childhood trying to kill me. For the past 25 years, we are closer than any brother and sister I know. (And his wife is one of my closest and most trusted friends.)
My other brother - we didn't have as much to do with one another as kids. Now, it's really hard to know him. And he's a nice guy and all, not all shut up about relationship etc. But, there's just not that bond.
So, my bet is always that those kids annoying one another, end up having closer adult relationships.

After reading your quote from the Red Book, I think Gimli and Legolas had a friendship like David and Jonathan.

Outside I had to help keep the peace, but inwardly I was cheering him on as he defended his sister. That's the rub... we want our sons to be strong and defend themselves and the weak, but we don't want to encourage naked aggression...

It must be a ditzgul thing.... ;^)
The coffee was good...

"So, my bet is always that those kids annoying one another, end up having closer adult relationships."Yeah I think that's true. My brother is 7 years older than me. My sister is 5 years older. I had a pretty close relationship with my sister, but not so much with my brother. We didn't hate each other, but I know I really annoyed him sometimes. You know, little sister adoring older brother who doesn't want a little pest around. But we are really close now and have a great friendship.

Well...I had one brother who I spent my childhood arguing with. I STILL spend most of our time together arguing and trying to keep from smacking him. That's neither here nor there, I guess! However, the brother that I was closest to is no longer as close. Nothing big...we just don't have much in common anymore.
The really cool part is that I'm now really close to the siblings who were just too little to do much with until now. I'm probably closest to my brother who's now 18 than to any of the others. Since he's eight years younger than me, I really didn't do much with him when we were little. Same with my sixteen year old sister - we hang out together all the time, and have a ball! Of course, most people never guess that we're ten years apart. We both get a kick out of that at times...though usually I'm also a bit ticked because people usually think I'm wayyy younger than I am.

Joshua was mighty ill last night...has had a cold for a few days and it hit him really hard last night. He was coughing and Matthew came and got me in the middle of the night, saying that he sounded bad. Before I could get up, in wandered Josh talking absolute nonsense. He was firey hot to the touch. I took his temp and it was 104! I gave him some Advil and he laid down with me. Pretty soon, he said "I'm sweaty!" and I felt him, he was drenched, but cool. I got him into fresh pjs and he went back to his own bed and slept the night away. Whew.
