Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.
Well, then apparantly you ought to use some on Steve --- to jump start to conversation -- after you both turn off those contraptions that bother the other.... *LAUGHING AT THIS END*
I does have a certain appeal.

2J - When you get a chance and you are not online, launch Norton Systemsworks, click Utilities, then Optimize and click Speed Disk. You may have to run a defrag (optimization) on your hard drive to get all of the ducks in a row, so to speak! It really helps speed up my PC, so maybe that could be it (especially if you haven't done it in a while).
Corin - WW2JD? LOL! I'm tellin ya, I know what you mean. There are quite a few no-win situations in the best of relationships (which mine is far from), but I always follow the fuggedaboudit policy, unless it is something really off the chain.

That's the only use I see for Valentine's Day. Of course, I don't have a fella, so that's probably why I see it like that LOL.

I don't know what minimum price is acceptable for this mandolin, but I would avoid putting reserve prices on anything selling for less than several hundred dollars. Just start the bidding at your acceptable price, and let them bid.
I get pissed when I see an expensive item listed at $1, but with a high reserve. It attracts several bids, but the reserve isn't met yet, and other bidders see that it may take a lot of guessing to figure out how much the seller really wants.
With "no reserve", the first person to bid on it knows he's got it, unless someone bids more. But everybody has a better idea of the prices involved.
I've used reserve prices for some of the really expensive stuff I've sold. The reserve is the minimum I'd like to get out of it. But the opening bid is still about half that, just to get things going. None of this "$1 opening, $500 reserve" stuff for me. YMMV. I just want to avoid annoying potential bidders, and give them a better idea of what the numbers should be.

But IF I do sell on eBay, I'll try to put my starting bid pretty close to my reserve. Sounds like that's less annoying?
I'll probably mention it to some local music buddies before advertising elsewhere. Most of them have already played it, and it may be someone will be interested.
So they say...turning computers on and off causes wear and tear on the components. I don't know that it's that measurable, though...by the time you might notice problems, the system will probably be outdated anyway. But it's a good excuse for leaving it up and running and ready for FReeping!

Tell them they're getting first crack at it before it goes on eBay, and gets bid up into the stratosphere. They also have the added advantage of knowing it, and its owner.
For me, PayPal is extremely valuable. I think it helps encourage "binge buying" because it makes everything so fast and simple. This is good if you're a seller, bad if you're a buyer.
I'm both, and PayPal is definitely worth the ~2% I pay them, in that it lets me handle credit cards, and lets me display the credit card logos, along with their own. I know the extra traffic it generates more than pays for their fees.
My secret eBay vice is collecting IBM memorabilia. I have stuff from the 1920s to the present. An IBM clock, IBM microphone, IBM banner, IBM wall hanging, IBM scale, IBM tools, IBM olympic stuff. I also have about 40 different IBM coffee mugs, which I was never able to snag on my own, because the bosses skarfed them up before they could trickle down the food chain. And techs are definitely at the bottom of the IT food chain.
Yeah, but what do I know? I do more breaking that fixing lately...maybe should do the OPPOSITE of anything I say!
