Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Oh Scott.... you are gonna have to help me!
[scratching head]
To: HairOfTheDog
They were the two towers, or twin towers, or some such thing for the Houston Rockets in the 80's and 90's.
A guy's joke...you saw the two towers last night...
To: Scott from the Left Coast
HA! - Tricksey elf... telling guy jokes!
To: HairOfTheDog
We elves have depths unimagined.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
So are you still employed?
To: Overtaxed
Hi Overtaxed! Hi everyone.
To: Sam Cree
Good Morning Sam!
From one of the everyones...
To: HairOfTheDog
BTW, just got off the phone to a friend who's going up to Seattle to see TTT in the huge theatre up there (forgot name already). He's a huge LoTR fan (and mad as hell that the first one didn't win the Best Picture Oscar -- calls them the Gone With the Wind of our day...and to make his point he asks: How many miles of difference is there between Gladiator and these movies? Good point).
He'd be a great Hobbit Holer -- but he sits over on the left side of the fence.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
It's the Cinerama!
You should go with him. Paul Allen bought it and renovated it, and spent a bejillion dollars on it. Neat theater. I have been there with Penny!
To: HairOfTheDog
In a funny sort of way yes. But maybe not for long. I'm on leave right now for a couple of weeks...and after that I'll take my last six+ weeks of leave and be gone to unemployment land, or I'll have a new position. My attorney has got an agreement from my agency to find a transfer position to another agency, and they are going to help this happen. So next week (and the next) we'll be working feverishly to effect that and hopefully it will work or I'll then be truly unemployed.
Any job I get will be lower pay, but it'll also be easier and less work -- which after the stress of this situation sound just fine to me.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
So they are just going to move you to another agency eh? Just for paybacks they'll probably move you to ecology.... or DSHS! ;~D
To: HairOfTheDog
Well, mostly it's my attorney doing the leg work (gettin' something for the money). I think our agency will just be going along with it. The front runners right now are L&I and Administrator of the Courts. There's not much time for the second string to appear, so the first shot better do it.
To: HairOfTheDog
Hello Hair, how are you today?
Warm and sunny here now, though cool earlier.
Am pretty busy today, though.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
If you work for L&I would you be in that weird grain-silo sort of building?
To: Sam Cree
It is 46 degrees and not raining, which is better than raining. I am gonna work my horse a little later... and get some laundry done.
To: HairOfTheDog
How much rain do you get a year there? I am wondering if the horses create much mud with all that rainfall.
To: HairOfTheDog
Yup
To: Sam Cree
Over 60 inches usually. Mud was invented here.
To: Sam Cree
Horses do make a lot of mud... Mud management is one of my biggest challenges these months.
The type of ground makes all the difference. Here I lucked out because I have seen worse. My ground here is really sandy and drains well. I get mud, but it dries out pretty well if it is dry for a day. Knowing what I know now, I would never build a farm on clay soil, or any other soil that is not predominantly sandy.
I don't know what out rainfall stats are really. Some of the more tropical places certainly get more quantity. Our rain is often just drizzly lasting for days, instead of downpours that measure a lot of inches quickly. I would think of "days" of rain more than inches. we probably have 200 days of rain a year.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Am I right on the "days" count? - I didn't look it up, and I wonder if it is low!
