Question for the global warming people: considering that current low temperature records for the day were not simply broken, but crushed, does this fit your "models"? Hmmm?

In the news:

Runoff election day in Louisiana. And what would an election be if it didn't have a Criminal Party vote buying scandal? Landrieu is accused of trying to buy military votes with $10 Thanksgiving food gift certificates. The claim is reported in The Washington Times, and comes from Gen. George Peyton Cole, Jr., retired.

North Carolina has activated the National Guard to help storm victims.

And one of the hottest toys this Christmas shopping season? A talking President Bush doll. The Daily News reports the doll says "17 powerful and patriotic phrases," including:

"Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot shake the foundation of America."

"I will not yield. I will not rest. I will not relent in waging this struggle for freedom and security for the American people."

And what would a President Bush doll be without a mangled phrase? They included: "I will not hold this nation hostile."

Reportedly the manufacturer is also planning dolls for JFK, and President Reagan.

[They are also planning one for UOx42, but it is not clear whether one of the phrases for that doll would be: "I never had sex with that woman."]

Voted about an hour ago. One thing I noticed, besides the cold, was a lack of lawn signs that usually blanket the street near my polling place. Took longer to get checked in by the pollsters than it did for me to zip into the booth, pull the lever for Terrell, and tell them to "Have a nice day". 8^)

I'm heading out to Cocoa Village for a HUGE craft fair!!....Yippee!

LOL, I asked hubby if he'd like to go.....:)))))-----crowds and crafts are his favorite things......NOT!!......

Yesterday, I put some money in a Salvation Army kettle, and the young man, the bell ringer, wished me a Happy Holiday....

...I said...ahem, Merry Christmas!!!! :)

...and he replied with a chuckle...Merry Christmas....:)))

I thought that Atkins article (the one posted two nights ago) was very bogus and not well researched at all. There was a very simplistic and uninformed view of Atkins that made it an easy target for the author. You may not want to waste your time.

You'll be happy to know that Mrs. Mulliner has been fixing grits a few mornings a week for all the little Mulliners running around here. That must explain why they are such smart and good-looking girls.

A lot of people say that Atkins works for some and not for others. That's the typical response from the people who have never really tried it the right way, but don't want to be bothered. At least they're acknowledging that it works for some people who have testified as to its effectiveness. Other people are even more maddening and try to explain even to the crowds who have had extremely good results that it really doesn't work and it's all an illusion or some such rot.

I remember that Dr. Atkins discusses some people with high resistance to ketosis. I have a friend who tried it faithfully, but couldn't seem to get into ketosis. In her case, I think it was her messed up thyroid condition. Those people are relatively rare, I'm pretty sure.

Maybe I shouldn't feel the need to be the "apostle of Atkins," but I don't have patience for those who think it's their mission to criticize the diet without ever really trying it the right way, following all the rules, or without even reading the facts about it.

I'm off to get a few things done. One thing we're doing today is buying some furniture to put in our new house. The house is 20 years old. Hopefully at least some of the furniture we get won't be quite that old.
