Another New Yawker weighs in on Southern Culture - that's always interesting.
I would be happy with more critical thinking in our classrooms - we've got so PC with our education, that certain issues get a free pass, while others remain "unmentionable."

LoS is a white supremacist organization that doesn't even have the guts to admit it.
And it has many, many followers here on FR. Right SSB?
For those who don't know: SSB posts NOTHING but diatribes about how "Duh South Gon' RAZZ Agin'!"

Blacks and women both have months to celebrate their heritage, other white Virginians argued. Don't Confederates deserve the same privilege? Because Caucasians get the other 10 months out of the year to celebrate their heritage? And are more than welcome to celebrate their heritage during the other two months too?
Justin Wilson, the famed Cajun comic, once told a story about two duck hunters who pounded on the door of the local game warden, demanding "We want one more month to hunt duck!" The warden, clad only in his union suit after getting out of bed to answer the men's hammering on his door, said "What?" Both hunters repeated, "We want one more month to hunt duck! Duck season ends tomorrow, and we want one more month to hunt duck!" The game warden looked at both of them, asking "What you gonna name it?" The hunters looked, mystified, at the warden. "What you mean, 'What we gonna name it?'" The warden replied, "You already hunt 'em 12 months outta de year - if you want a new month, you gotta have a new name for dat month."

"Second, right-wing multiculturalism provides a tremendous chance to promote the inquiry-based pedagogy that many liberals say they want."
Question: why dont you see conservatives using words like this?
Answer: we arent trying to baffle our followers into a fervent roar.
he could have easily have said "right-wing multiculturalism provides a chance to promote equal-opportunity libby $h17..." but he wants to try to have a more sophisticated sound. he wants to be intimidating.... he wants to sound like he has more of a clue about his mind-set than we do.
funny, if you read into it enough, his inflated words and attempts to be recognized for his mind proves that he has concious doubts about his own equality in a world that can do something, while all he can do is raise a stink. the only reason that blacks in general feel they are being supressed, is because they are, well, supressing themselves so as to be able to raise the stink they do. noone does it but them anymore (note, i said "generally")

yous treaden on thin ice, boy. you forget, the majority of those who want individual rights have family who fought for a confederay, which, although fallible, would have given them those rights. oh, and you keep that "pah" handy, next time someone mentions Northern Culture....

Well now, it seems that some of my kindred spirits have taken up the enemy's own weapon and put a true fox amongst the hens with this.
Imagine, being forced to concede that the South might actually have an element of righteous multiculturalism of its own. Especially after having to admit that the "angry-white-male-southern-redneck-gun-toting-racist-christian-pig" sniper was actually a treasured "african-american-peace-loving-muslim".
Hmmm, let me check something here. I cannot seem to remember exactly whose culture treasures its children, adores its women, attends church on a regular basis, and has only gone to war to defend its own rights, lands, and families. The same culture also seems to respect different distinct cultures, instead of forcing the blending of them all. Not to mention how much the concepts of honor, loyalty, charity, sportsmanship, honesty, and politeness are interwound in its very fabric.
Now, truth be told, I am, and will always be a Patriotic American. The very things that I have learned growing up Southern have taught me to be proud of my country. I still get chills each and every time I hear The Star Spangled Banner. Whereas Dixie only brings a smile to my face, the National Anthem brings my soul to attention, and warms my heart. I thank God that I am an American. I thank my parents that I am Southern. And I thank my Heritage for teaching me what each one of those things mean. God Bless, and Goodnight from Dixie.

I'm not a big fan of separate "heritage" months. I believe it drives Americans apart. The open season on "all things Southern" has prompted a resurgence in Southern pride. The left-wing attacks have taken a non-issue and turned it into a broiling controversy.
Americans have 12 months a year to be proud.

I'm not a big fan of separate "heritage" months. I always hear this nagging little voice in my head during "Group of Your Choice Month" saying, "Does this mean that "Group of Your Choice" are irrelevant the other 11 months out of the year?"
The open season on "all things Southern" has prompted a resurgence in Southern pride.
Agree. There were heroes and genuinely good men on both sides of the conflict, and to honor one group at the expense of the other is a zero-sum game. And I hate zero-sum games; they don't work, are divisive, and are not based on logic.
The left-wing attacks have taken a non-issue and turned it into a broiling controversy.
A talking point of the left, crafted to raise consciousness and funds (not necessarily in that order).

My wife and I were standing in front of large display of books in a South Carolina bookstore. The book being displayed was titled,
Southern Culture.
I waited 'til a number of other shoppers were around us to announce to my wife, "Oh, honey, remember when you aksed me what an oxymoron is? There's a great one on that book, Southern Culture.
I expected some hostile reaction from the natives, but realized they had no idea what I had just said.
LOL

The more astute among us have already come to the realization that the South has already risen again...
To: MacDorcha; Illbay
More importantly, without the South we certainly wouldn't have a Senate majority, a house majority, or the white house. The South is solid again. whooya.
To: Hank Kerchief
Well, golly gee hank, you shure stumped us hicks! You friggin morons are despised more than you know.

The South was doing a fine job "razzin 'agin" until the Feds mandated that immigration control to be under their sole purview. With that they unleashed a new weapon to suck up resources and halt the progress we'd begun after the boot of "Reconstruction" was lifted only a few decades ago. No other word is appropriate: the Federal government has been niggardly in support against the invasion of illegals from south of our border. They refuse to support our hospitals while mandating the invaders receive services without any means of renumeration. They mandate that our classrooms take on the deluge at the expense of our own childrens' education. They force our lesser skilled citizens to compete with a labor pool of opportunists at the expense of everyone's pocketbook.
Now why would we Southerners be upset?
To: Hank Kerchief
Perhaps you missed some of the other books in the
Southern Culture section?
Patsy Cline, BB King, Flannery O'Conner, Shelby Foote, Elvis, Grand 'Ol Opry, BBQ, NASCAR - the list is long -and- it's all part of Southern culture.
Check out the link and get back to us. I'm sure you will find some interesting books on that thread!
