This is our own corner of Free Republic where homeschoolers can discuss what curriculum we use, vent when needed, share our successes, compare notes, alert each other to things we find on the internet, and vent some more.

The education department's Nanny State view is that parents may be allowed by the government to "supplement" their own children's education with tutoring at home, but "not substitute the education with uncredentialed home instruction."
***
Quoted from one of the articles listed above.

The reason my husband agreed to homeschool was that I had to supplement our children's education at home to such an extent that they were better off being taught at home in the first place!

I took one child out of school in the middle of first grade. He was in Reading Recovery and had memorized the books, but could not read.

My son recently began third grade, and reads at the 4th grade level. That's the result of "uncredentialed home instruction"!
