I spent quite a bit of time researching this bill over a year ago. Unless it has been completely rewritten, the assertions made in this post are nonsense. The bill as it was written at that time did none of these things. I would be very surprised if it has been changed.

Mostly, S. 625 is pork-barrel spending. It provides money to local police agencies to prosecute "hate crimes." It provides money for some "hate crime prevention" which will undoubtedly be left-wing teaching. It will expand some bureaucracies. It will add to the sentence of people who cause bodily injury to another person, but it certainly doesn't prosecute people for disagreeing with homosexuality or anything else.

These are all bad things, and the bill should be vetoed. However, most of the assertions in this commentary simply aren't true. In opposing this bill, conservatives need to show that they have taken the time to understand the bill and argue intelligently against it.

I wrote a commentary about the bill in August of 2001. That commentary is at S.625 - Hate Crimes for Profit. I also recommend searching at Thomas to read the bill for yourself.
