Mostly, S. 625 is pork-barrel spending. It provides money to local police agencies to prosecute "hate crimes." It provides money for some "hate crime prevention" which will undoubtedly be left-wing teaching. It will expand some bureaucracies. It will add to the sentence of people who cause bodily injury to another person, but it certainly doesn't prosecute people for disagreeing with homosexuality or anything else.
These are all bad things, and the bill should be vetoed. However, most of the assertions in this commentary simply aren't true. In opposing this bill, conservatives need to show that they have taken the time to understand the bill and argue intelligently against it.
