Hey--Pete Romero was discovered by posters online, in the same way, and whaddya know, the police found him interesting enough to question.

I wouldn't doubt that LE has people posted full time reading every thread about the case.

stop berating what the LDS Bishop said....those are his words, not mine....

fact is....as you have told us many times here, there is no need to be dissing the LDS church or its followers, and I guess that would include its Bishops so you wise up, dear.

Here's another curious statement (June 28, SLC Trib) that seems to separate the crime from the missing girl, something I don't think can be separated -- unless there is a huge gap in the present story: Search coordinator and former Salt Lake City Mayor Ted Wilson said no formal searches are being made in the Kearns area near Ricci's home.

"We want Elizabeth back, and that's quite separate, really, from the crime itself," Wilson said. "To the extent that the criminal investigation helps the search, we're ready for that. But in the meantime, the search goes on."

Varina, I didn't mean the police originally got Pete Romero's name from an internet forum. They wouldn't need to--remember, they've got all the answers to the questions, the answers we'd love to know: who has a criminal record, what is the criminal record, what were the details of the crimes, how many times has this criminal been married, was he involved in domestic violence--those are just some of the things I, for one, would love to know about each of our "suspects."

I meant, posters on the internet were smart enough to discover Romero in the public Utah sex offender registry--all on their own, w/o reading it in the media. As it happened, Romero was indeed of at least tangential interest to the police, also.

No one was berating the Bishop or the Church, you twit. Your distortions make you very foolish.

so...it seems even the LDS Bishop thought Ricci was a good guy......hmmmmmmm

Yeah, Ricci was a good guy, all right. He is definitely better now that there's no chance he's going to show up in your daughter's bedroom in the middle of the night like he did the girl visiting Ricci's neighbor.

If they're reading my posts and haven't caught the kidnapper yet they're not interested in catching him.

What's this Holmes?

The girl, Tin Lie or something, that was visiting the neighbor when he broke in in the middle of the night and went in her bedroom and took jewelry out of the dresser and $300. The one he woke up and she talked to him, thought he was a family member getting something.

The girl was named Lin Lee. I think she was about 20 or 21. She was sleeping in the guest room of the home of Sue Ann Adams, a Federal Heights neighbor of the Smarts.

According to my memory of the affidavit supporting the indictment of Ricci for this burglary, Ricci had been doing work in that very bedroom, that day. When it was late at night, Ms. Lee was asleep, but awoke b/c of a rustling noise in the room where she was sleeping. She vaguely saw a figure standing by the dresser. Half-asleep, and thinking it was an Adams family member, she mumbled, "you can turn the light on if you want." The person responded by coughing or "grunting." Ms. Lee rolled over and fell back asleep.

The next day, $300 was missing from the dresser. Also, a sliding glass door somewhere in the house had been tampered with.

The indictment, and the affidavit describing the facts of the incident, are out on the web. They were posted on cybersleuths some time ago in their "All Criminal Cases" section. Also posted were the indictments and the affidavits for the other state crimes Ricci had pending at his death--but not, to my knowledge, the federal indictment for the bank robbery. These documents use Adobe Acrobat.

Incidentally, it was this "Lin Lee" affidavit that told us that Ms. Adams hired Ricci on the recommendation of Ed Smart. The Lee/Adams incident was, I think, in April, 2001.
I think, but am not sure, that the affidavit said Ricci later confessed to police that he did the Lee/Adams burglary. See, Sandude, why we're pretty sure that Ricci had crept around in the bedroom of a sleeping young woman before?

"We want Elizabeth back, and that's quite separate, really, from the crime itself," Wilson said.

This statement was made, wasn't it, around the time Dave Smart said something similar? About how it wasn't important to find the perp, just important to find Elizabeth? Were those the official talking points back then or something?

Oh yeah, I remember. I thought you were talking about a visit to one of the other trailers in the theme park.

Yes and this business that he liked to steal things from childrens rooms is really creepy.

Of course he did, it was the man's eulogy, for goodness sake. Didn't you ever hear the one about the man that died, and his wife & son were sitting in the front row at the funeral. The preacher got up and went into a long discourse of what a great man this fellow had been, pillar of the community, strong family man. The wife nudged her son and said "Sonny boy, tip toe up and peak in that casket and make sure that's your Daddy that man's talkin' about.

I'm sure there was a beautiful side to Ricci in spite of the fact in his last year he snuck in somebody's bedroom in the middle of night and stole jewelry & all the cash he could find, stole $3000 worth of jewelry from the Smart family, robbed a bank at gunpoint and threatened to take an employee hostage, and went for a mysterious muddy joyride in his Jeep on Jun 8 that he won't admit to or tell who he left a certain repair shop that day with. So what if he's flipped off the Smart family, the police, the FBI, and the American public and took this information to the grave. So what if they think he's involved in this girl's kidnapping and probable murder. And whatever else he did he didn't get caught at, yet. Hey, the LDS bishop said he was a great guy! And their are plenty of liberals on this thread with no sense that'll stand by their man no matter what. Bizarre, man.

RE: #794 ...but run away in her pajamas...

Elizabeth's pajamas were an Oriental-style of red satin. They are considered "sexy" even by grown women. Nails painted with aqua or blue polish, I'd say this youngster had discovered her feminity, which is usually an effort to attract males of the species.
