I vaguely remember reading that, in the Westerfield case, the defendant's RV did not have his DNA in it either. Apparently, he had cleaned it with bleach.
Either way, if there is none of the owner's DNA in a vehicle used by him, either there is a way to clean it well enough to destroy the DNA, or someone made a mistake or lied.

I've always felt that a good deal of that story was smoke and mirrors, calculated leaks and such to help with the case. I certainly hope so. If not, there's some serious friggin' in the riggin' in the LE work here.

If they felt that it was a bungled burglary they would just wrap this baby up now seeing as their man is dead. Contrary statements have come from the top. The reports I've heard is that Chief Dinse "bristled" when it was suggested that the investigation might wind down. He has also stated that they are looking at other people and that most if not all of them are associates of Rick.

Too bad Westerfield didn't have Angela advising him then, he could have dumped the RV somewhere and said someone stole a set of keys to it a month before.

"Why did Angela check on the jeep on the same day they towed it to Moul's repair shop?"
You know, it is kind of strange. I would have thought it was odd for them to leave the jeep for long periods, but I also am amazed that someone who didn't pay their bill regularly would be so demanding that they'd insist the repair be completed in less than a day. Especially someone who had access to two other vehicles.

I don't understand why Richard Ricci in particular was such a cause celebre for Varina and her friends. And I (and perhaps myy "friends") do not understand why you and your friends continue to target a deceased and uncharged man and his widow with the zeal of the those conducting the Spanish Inquisition.
I also do not understand why you and your friends refuse to discuss other possible avenues in the case that might lead to unearthing a perpetrator or someone who knows who the perpetrator might be.
Don't you get just a little tired of the same old refrain about the Ricci's? Of nothing but hearsay and innuendo in the light of an absence of facts and forensic evidence?
If not, then rave on.
Good Post.
We wll find out eventually who did this. Sounds like the FBI agree with us that others need to be considered as possible suspects.
To: lakey
Didn't you like the part "...the FBI believes Utah authorities are rushing to judgment...(with Ricci)" the case has them baffled? So the FBI may be agreeing with what some of us have said all along. This "rush to judsment" with Ricci is a way for the SLCPD to close the case.

If I had been in Ed Smart's position , I would have brought in someone like Mark Furhman before now.
He certainly has the donations for it.

"unless Angela is correct and it was one of the other white jeeps that disappeared from Moul's lot."
I see you are considering this, Sherlock. I think you are getting a bum rap (how ironic) from varina, if she is including you in her fictional angry mob that wanted to just lynch her dear Richard.
It is an intriguing possibility. Or maybe Rick snowed Angela into believing that the jeep really, really didn't leave Moul's at all until the police came and got it, over 2 wks. after it went in. But shouldn't it be easy enough to determine if the jeep really had several hundred extra miles on it? I bet the police wouldn't have to rely on Moul's word alone for that, I bet there are some other indicators of what its mileage might have been around May 30. For any car that goes into the shop frequently, there usually are. Quickie oil changes, vehicle inspections...
The alternative is that Moul is some really devious, diabolical type who could do all this to help set up Ricci. Of course, then one has to wonder why Moul would bother. We have nothing to show that Moul has been dishonest in the past.

"Tabloid snobs are hilarious."
Ah, a personal attack. So that's the source of your hostility. You see "snobs" everywhere. If I were really too "snobbish" to admit reading the NE, I wouldn't have said I read it, would I?
You are quite snobbish yourself, varina. You just reverse things. A traditional snob would scorn anyone who they thought was not "upper-crust" enough. You scorn anyone who is not low-life enough to consider going in and out of prison like a swinging door, shooting up, and guzzling beer at 8 a.m., normal behavior.

And I'd want to see a picture of a certain sex offender who's picture has been removed from the Utah Sex Offender's Registry, I think varina might remember who that was.Sorry, I have no idea who this was. Haven't even checked out the Utah list.
To: sandude
He has also stated that they are looking at other people and that most if not all of them are associates of Rick. That's probably why it's not going anywhere and the FBI is stepping up its investigation.

but I also am amazed that someone who didn't pay their bill regularly would be so demanding that they'd insist the repair be completed in less than a day.Do you have a source for this statement. Never heard or read there was a "demand" that "repair be completed in less than a day."
To: varina davis
Speaking of reality, not law. Moreover, never heard of any charges regarding this allegation by an ex-wife. Then I assume it must be perfectly OK with you for Prince Ricci to mess around with a sixteen year old, correct?
To: varina davis
About a demand that the repair be completed in less than a day--
It seems to be the consensus here that the jeep first went into the shop on May 30. Angela has said she called the shop to inquire about the jeep's fuel pump.
It also seems to be the consensus (and that even includes the opinion of Angela Ricci) that the jeep was taken out of the shop by SOMEONE on May 30.
Therefore, it appears that the Riccis put the jeep in the shop on May 30, and Angela called the same day to check the progress of the repairs. I usually give my auto repair guy a chance to look into the repair and call me back. I realize that I am not his only customer. Neth's seems to have been a busy place, and the Riccis were not his only customers. If I didn't always pay the bill on time--as the Riccis reportedly didn't, even according to Angela--I wouldn't be so pushy as to call only hours after the vehicle went in, demanding an account of progress.
Of course, we know you say she could have called after May 30. Angela never made that clear--perhaps so she can continue to hoodwink naive people like you into thinking she's this Joan of Arc-like martyr. I have yet to see you respond to the point that, if Angela had called after May 30, Neth's wouldn't have been able to find the jeep to check on it, and that would have resulted in Angela's knowing the jeep had "disappeared." Perhaps you don't want to see that point b/c it would just be yet another indicator that your precious Angela's story is not entirely believable.
To: varina davis
"Uh oh. Seems I pinched a nerve."
Don't be silly, varina. You took out my last nerve before I ever even started posting here. All that's left is the humor of watching your elaborate concatenations, as you devote your time to your own personal morality play, in which the Riccis are sacrificial lambs and middle-class people just like yourself are their butchers.
To: varina davis
"Haven't even checked out the Utah list."
There it is, proof that you really have no curiosity about this case, that you are here only to further some fantasy of your own that somewhere, some poor criminal is being persecuted by "snobs."
To: Devil_Anse
After reading through many of these threads and lurking for a while, I would ask you, as a lawyer, to sum up the case in a nutshell. Thank you
