So, you're saying Ed Smart repossessed the jeep while it was in the shop and it was used by some unknown character to carry out the alleged kidnapping?

The fact is, Spore-gasm, that you and Sherlock would not be arguing over such a simple thing as whether Angela really called Neth's or not, if it were not for the fact that Angela is an expert smoke-and-mirrors artist.

Saw with my own eyes:

In the earlier LKL interview, she said she had absolutely no knowledge of who that woman was who called Neth's and claimed to be Mrs. Ricci--said she knew it sure wasn't she.

In her most recent interview, she has suddenly "remembered" that she herself did call Neth's once. But of course she stops short of definitely confirming that her call was "The Mrs. Ricci Call" of which Neth spoke.

She stops short of this b/c she is creating an escape hatch for herself. She will not let herself be pinned down on this. She is a B.S. Artist from way back, in my opinion.

And it is perfectly reasonable for people on here to assume/theorize that Angela "suddenly remembered" that she'd made a call to Neth's, b/c the phone records had (in the interim) showed that Neth was telling the truth, and that Angela was lying in that early interview.

Focus, it did run through my mind that maybe Ed was the person who repossessed the jeep. Maybe Ricci really hadn't paid off all he owed for this fine vehicle. In that case, Ed would still have been the lienholder, and could have legally repossessed the jeep.

But there is so much which argues against this: I have a distinct memory that Ed said once that he'd already transferred the jeep title to Ricci, well before the abduction. That would mean that Ricci had paid off the whole price of the jeep.

Also, I don't know for sure if the jeep "surreptitiously" disappeared from Neth's on May 30. Several people have insisted, quoting news articles, that Ricci himself was seen by Neth openly removing the jeep on May 30. So I may have to finally let go of my repo scenario.

Others have pointed out that Ed may well have had a key to the jeep, still, even as late as May 30, 2002.
But to me, that's too many keys: 1)Ricci's key, 2) the key that Angela said was "stolen" in April 2002, and 3)a key held back by Ed?

BTW, spore-gasm, you're a Capitol Grilling reader. Do you remember what some posters there said was the reason THEY thought Ed called Ricci "Richard," instead of "Rick?"

Sure, the fact that NOBODY says Neth's got any calls asking about Ricci's jeep, during the period of May 30--June 8, suggests that the Riccis knew darn well the jeep wasn't at Moul's during those days.

I'm not so sure about that. If they didn't have the money to pay for and retrieve the Jeep, they probably would not want to draw attention to the fact that the Jeep hadn't yet been picked up by calling.

Those of us who can actually read and comprehend know it means Ed Smart dumped a piece of junk on Ricci in exchange for hours worked, then turned around and demanded money for it. Sounds to me like Ed was scamming Ricci. I'd be ticked off, too.

I don't know if Spore's is a correct conclusion or not, but I was thinking today that no one REALLY knows how Ricci felt about Ed and his family. Even though he and Angela have said otherwise, it's very possible that he harbored some very negative feelings towards the Smarts, Ed in particular.

I keep going back to MOTIVE. If the items he stole, and then kept, had belonged to Elizabeth, then that might indicate a motive. If this was a screwed up kidnapping plot, then the motive would have been money. But I think there's also the possibility that REVENGE was involved. I'd like to know more about his relationship with Ed and their business dealings.
