Several months later Board Chairman Zimmerman was asked by military veterans to follow the lead of the Arlington School Board and open County Board meetings with the Pledge of Allegiance as a show of support for our troops in Afghanistan. Inexplicably, Zimmerman rebuked the veterans and denied their request, calling their request "cheap" and stating that the Pledge was "divisive" in multicultural Arlington.
