In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

probity\'prO-b&-tE \, n:
1.adherence to the highest principles and ideals
2.Complete and confirmed integrity
“He was a gentlemanly Georgian, a person of early American probity” (Mary McGrory).

Etymology:Middle English probite, from Old French, from Latin probitas, from probus, upright, good. See per1 in Indo-European Roots.

Usage:Usage: Probity denotes unimpeachable honesty and virtue, shown especially by the performance of those obligations, called imperfect, which the laws of the state do not reach, and can not enforce. Integrity denotes a whole-hearted honesty, and especially that which excludes all injustice that might favor one's self. It has a peculiar reference to uprightness in mutual dealings, transfer of property, and the execution of trusts for others.

Good Morning, class. Today ,you may use probity or it's opposite, improbity.

The Fire Island reference goes right over my head, sorry. Do gays hang out there, or is it a loony bin, or what?

What little I've seen and heard of Imus convinces me that it's a tragedy that a great guy like Shakespeare is dead and that Imus is still alive.

Thanks, it bolstered my already in need of bolstering self today. Feeling like the RED QUEEN is good for women feeling a powerless moment. Oh, well, not seriously, just a minor walking glitch. Lordy, a Bloody Mary would help.

Don't be fillin' your head with Imus utterances. Poor boy can't remember what he said or thought last week, much less yesterday. Probably wasn't too sure who Sean was! He actually thinks Joe (Lieberman) is his buddy. Watching IMUS is like watching grass grow!

I think that Brian Killmeade(?) on Fox and Friends is the cutest and possibly funniest guy on Fox. He doesn't know he is funny. Did anyone see him and ED interview Gebardt and Hasert this morning? Too funny. He is very much like Sean, only not as polished. It was a great show.

Have a great rest of the day, I am off the therapy.

I feel much less ignorant now. Here's a bit of silliness I've been posting around that I remembered this morning from about thirty years ago:

To the tune (roughly) of Dvorak's "Humoresque" (you should theoretically be able to listen to this about a third of the way down this page):

Was it you who did the pushin'
Put the stains upon the cushion
Footprints on the dashboard upside down?
Was it you, you sly woodpecker
Got into my girl Rebekker
If it was you'd better leave this town!

Yes, twas I who did the pushin'
Put the stains upon the cushion
Footprints on the dashboard upside down.
But ever since I had your daughter
I've had trouble passing water
Guess that makes us even all around.

I think it was 3 1/2, but the pool I'm in is just straight win/loss. You have to pick a half season's worth at at time. Each team gets picked only twice through the half-season. Each week there's two matchups you must use in your picks. It's tougher than it appears.

The only year I came close - I was in third place, but two guys tied for second, so once again, I had to sing "Born to Lose".

Robert Wood Johnson took over the public hospital in nearby New Brunswick - basically took a hell-hole and turned it into a state-of-the-art facility, specializing in cancer patients. He's alright by me.
