Since the GeoPic of the week has been heavy with volcanoes and remote sensing, and since the usual sources didn't have anything very impressive this week, I cast a wider net and re-visited a place (via the WWW) that I visited in person about 20 years ago. The place is Letchworth State Park in west-central New York State south of Rochester. When I went there, it was just a stop on a summer trip; I didn't know that the main feature of this park was the glacial gorge of the Genesee River. It's an amazing place, and this picture gives some idea of it.

In the future, if "current events" don't yield a geology picture of the week, I'll try to revisit other little-known state park gems I'm aware of: feel free to contribute some ideas.

Well, the bridge gives the picture some scale, but the power lines are unfortunate. Still, it's a state park on the East Coast; can't have everything.
