If he was in respiratory failure and not cardiac arrest he may have been given some high grade heroin, more potent than he was used to using.

Senility has hit...I thought I'd never forget those names.

He wasn't given his correct meds, didn't urinate for the longest time and then died in his cell without medical assistance.

I can see him in his white hat, quite the dandy.

When I saw that Ed Smart had gotten himself back on TV last night with Dan Abrams I thought, here goes Ed, keeping Elizabeth's name out there again because Miranda Gaddis and Ashley Pond had knocked the Smart case even farther off the radar than it had been lately.

And now this...and please....don't even go there...I'm not implying any guilt on Ed's part concerning Ricci's health problems. It's just the coincidences in the case are strange and keep getting stranger all of the time.

Funny thing, I woke up about an hour or so ago for no reason, came here first thing and there was the big news.

It's almost 3:30AM here, I've got to get to bed, with the tv on in my bedroom, even though I'm really interested and curious about his prognosis that doesn't look promising.

hergus....how could he get any drugs....he was separated from the other inmates...on death row I believe...usually they do not let families go up and hug people in custody in the court house...

A representative for the Utah Department of Corrections was interviewed this morning on the Today Show. He said Ricci alerted control center last evening complaining of difficulty breathing and a severe headache. When the guards went to his room he talked to them for a minute or two and then collapsed on his bunk. They called in paramedics and began resusitation. He got out of some kind of surgery this morning - they wouldn't say what kind - and said that he was doing better and would probably pull through. The representative said some have speculated that it was an aneurism but he has no idea if this is true or not. He also doesn't think it was a suicide attempt because he is the one who called for help.

Are you aware that there is no longer a statue of Elvis on the surface of the moon? A few years ago the National Enquirer published a photograph revealing that, indeed, there was no longer a statue of Elvis there.

Seriously I think some of these theories are the result of wishful thinking.

It may be an aneurysm, but I wrote this back on August 8th to Bella:

What are they afraid of if Ricci did it? If he did it, this case will go to court and he will be found guilty because of the evidence. But they don't seem satisfied with that. It almost makes you wonder if Ricci's life is in danger.

If the evidence isn't strong enough to make a case, it would be easier to have him meet up with an accident in jail.

Possible Kidnap Suspect Hospitalized

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A handyman who police say is a potential suspect in the disappearance of Elizabeth Smart underwent four hours of surgery early Wednesday after collapsing in his prison cell, officials said.

Richard Ricci, 48, was in critical condition, said Salt Lake County sheriff's Lt. Robby Russo. He was rushed to University Hospital after he complained of breathing problems and then passed out Tuesday night. Russo said Ricci suffered an aneurism or a stroke.

Ricci is jailed on theft charges unrelated to the 14-year-old girl's disappearance, though the police chief has called him a potential suspect. Authorities say Elizabeth was kidnapped by an armed man on June 5 from her bedroom. Ricci has denied involvement in Elizabeth's disappearance

Ricci allegedly stole $3,500 worth of items from the Smarts' home in June 2001. He is also charged with burglary and another count of theft for allegedly taking items from another home in the same neighborhood. Ricci, who had worked as a handyman in both homes, has pleaded innocent to those charges.

He made a brief court appearance Tuesday as his attorneys asked for more time to review the case. A hearing was scheduled for Sept. 17.

After the hearing, Ricci's wife, Angela, reiterated her belief that her husband had nothing to do with Elizabeth's disappearance.

"I do know he's innocent. I still stand by him. I always have," she said.
