There was a time when Disney was very sensitive to negative publicity. Especially when it came to sex scandals. They fired Harlan Ellison from the creative team when he jokingly suggested making pornographic cartoons under the noses of Disney's censors, they fired Bob Crane in the mid '70s because someone tipped them off to his swinging lifestyle and they even fired Tommy Kirk when he came out of the closet at around the same time.
Things sure have changed since Eisner took the helm.
