I have been here on vacation once.

Homework:

Today's New York and Hollywood version of media as a "massed religion" is designed only to appeal to the most base, degenerate, immediate gratification of the world.

Thus, their ecumenical view seemed devoted to a combination of "Ewwwwhhhhh ..." + "cum" + "comical" as they attempt (and all too often succeed) as they merge revolting spectacles of violence and gore and Satanism, endless sex-related story lines, broken up by "news" reports of the latest Hollywood "who done who."

Although Mark Steyn should usually be read ecumenically, I find him a little heavy handed here, although he mentions Miss Annie's screen name, but not her in person.

Do Islamic militants have European "philosophical" roots?

Hitch reviews Martin Amis on Stalinism.

You're welcome.

Dang! My garden tomatoes are still green!

On another topic, if yesterday is any indication, the mid-80's may be up for grabs today as well.

Suffering from the vile "Green tomatoe" problem, eh?

(As opposed to a green thumb .... Which is preferable to other green appendages, or cabbages....)

That reminds me a vile joke appropriate to an empty thread ... since maxwell is falling down on the job today.

A pretty, vivacious young neighbor (not unlike the Misstress Gabz for example) sees an impressive, red, glowing tomato garden in her neighbor's backyard, while her own are shriveled, small, and still green.

Puzzled, she approached her neighbor, and asks how he did so well despite the drought and hot weather.

"Simple," he replies furtively, "... Every morning, I walk to the patch and expose myself. The tomatoes get embarressed, blush, and become red and ripe for the pickin'..."

She's doubtful, but becomes desperate in the next few days .... and decides to try his technique.

Two weeks later, the neighbor notices that her tomatoes
are still hard and green and asks what's the matter.....

Gabz, (er, the pretty neighbor), replies, "Well, your method failed to impress my tomatoes, but you ought to bend over and see what happened to my cucumbers...."

My tomatoes are all still green as well and my peppers don't even reach the level of pathetic.

As for the weather, they are calling for 100 today before the heat index is factored in.

On the bright side - I've gotten a bunch of chores done :-)!!!
