04/01/01	Sunday	Ricci burglarizes a Smart neighbor's home taking various items.
06/05/01	Tuesday	Ricci steals items from the Smart home while he is employed there as a handyman. Ricci is charged in July of 2002 of 1 count of theft related to the Smart incident.
05/30/02	Thursday	~ Ricci returns to pick up his Jeep at the auto repair shop before the shop has a chance to fully fix it He tells the repairman that it needed for an emergency.
06/04/02	Tuesday	~ Ricci is at work from about 9am to 5:30pm ~ Ricci claims he spends the evening with friends
06/05/02	Wednesday	~ 1:05am - 2 cars are spotted on the SLC Shriner's Hospital Parking Lot by a hospital security guard, two blocks from the Smart residence ~ 1:30am (approx) - Elizabeth is kidnapped from her home ~ 1:30am - Ricci claims to be in bed asleep with his with wife. ~ Ricci is scheduled to be off work all day today. ~ 7:21am - Rachel/Amber alert is issued and national media is involved. ~ 8:30am - Ricci and his neighbor talk about the kidnapping of Elizabeth, Ricci seems to know too much information about it. ~ Sometime during this day Ricci is visited by police in regards to Elizabeth's kidnapping as reported by Angela Ricci (Richard A. Ricci's Wife which is an ex-convict herself) ~ Ricci is seen by his neighbor digging a hole by his (Ricci's) trailer early in the morning. (heard the neighbor say this on TV)
06/06/02	Thursday	~ Ricci is scheduled to work from 9am to 5:30pm today, but instead works from 10:30am to 7:00pm ~ Police talk to Ricci this day about the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping. (The media is reporting this, so it could be wrong)
06/08/02	Saturday	~ Ricci returns the Jeep to the repair shop to get it fixed. The Jeep is muddy and the repair shop owner sees Ricci remove seat covers from the back of the jeep and place them into a plastic garbage bag that already contains other stuff in it. Also the repair shop owner said a muddy post hole digger was in the back of the Jeep, Ricci removes this also. Ricci has a man waiting across the street to give him a ride. Ricci takes the plastic bag and contents along with the post hole digger with him. Also there is 500 to 1000 extra miles on the Jeep since Ricci picked it up on May 30th, 2002.
06/14/02	Friday	~ Ricci is taken into custody for a parole violation, this being drinking while on parole and association with other ex-cons.
07/11/02	Thursday	Formal charges are filed against Ricci (2 counts of theft & 1 count of burglary) on the theft & burglary of the Smart neighbors home which occurred in April 2001, and 1 more count of theft for stealing from the Smart home on June 6th, 2001.

CALLER: OK. According to reports, you said your husband was in bed sleeping all night. But if you were sleeping yourself, how do you know he was in bed all night?

RICCI: OK, he falls asleep about 10:30 or 11:00 every night. And this is an every night thing. We're pretty scheduled that way. I don't sleep as well as he does, and I fall asleep between 1:00 and 2:00.

If he does get up to go to the restroom, I feel him get up, I feel him get back. I don't recall him getting up that evening, and we wake up at 6:00 every morning. So, you know, that's the best I can do there. He was in bed with me

KING: So you're saying if he got up, he'd got up, he'd have gone up, had to get up, leave the house, go out, abduct a child, harm the child, bury a child and come back home.

And you're saying that there's no way that figures?

RICCI: You've got to do the math.

SMITH: Yes, look at the timeline on this, because if he had done that -- if she went to bed at 1:30, say. Give her about 30 minutes to get to sleep. Then that means he leaves about 2:00. Even there you're conflicting with the timeframe.

KING: The timeframe.

RICCI: Exactly.

SMITH: And, you know, it takes about 25 to 30 minutes to go from Kearns, where they live, to the Federal Heights area, even if there's little traffic.

So if you're going to cut an hour off of travel time, that only gives you about two-and-a-half hours. That's very difficult.

RICCI: Yes.

it is clear to me that anything the cops say is not necessarily the truth...which is their perogative...hope it works out for them, but I don't believe half of what is being reported...

Nah. This was not a trial; Smith is not a criminal attorney; and this hearing had nothing to do with Elizabeth's kidnapping. According to Bella, Ricci could have shaved if he wanted to.

The Smarts said when Larry King interviewed their extended family in their home quite a while ago that LE had told them not to ask MK questions because that would alter her memory of the events. I've never heard it challenged and this quote by Boylan backs it up so I believe it.

I know this for a fact. It has been mentioned in a couple of press conferences and on an interview with Cynthia Smart Owens (sorry, it has been too long, and I can't remember who did the interview.) Anyway, I've heard Ed, Lois, and Cynthia with my own two ears on TV say that the police have asked them not to ask specific questions about the abduction to Mary Katherine. If Mary Katherine wants to talk, great, but don't press her. I'll try and find the source, but I can't promise anything.

the brother of Lizzie has stated that HIS mom screamed when she saw the cut screen...

the car racing was racing away from the crime....the scream I think the good doc heard was probably Lizzi's mom's scream....

and we know that the doc could hear the scream because the window was open ....isn't that the way the abductor came in?????....well, at least we know someone opened the window....

My question is...did the police tell them that?

My other question is questioning the Smart family for SAYING they have not talked to MK.

I know Ed Smart said that too..but I am too tired to go search for it.

You're not making sense here. The police and the specialists they brought in have questioned the witness extensively, and will contintue to do so if they see vlaue in further questioning. They have asked the family not to question her, because the family are not professionals in this field, and their well-intentioned questioning could quite easily taint MK's memory and/or give her an impression that her parents won't be happy with certain answers, so she'd better not give those answers to anyone.

Yeah, the police told the Smarts that. From all the websites I've read this evening, child forensic psychologists tell parents of child witnesses this, so it is pretty standard.

And I truly understand everyone's frustration. A 14 year old teenage girl is missing, just vanished off the face of the earth, and it seems as if all these constraints have been placed on the family by the police and prosecutors, etc. I'm just starting to get the uneasy feeling that Elizabeth is gone for good, they will never find the perp, or her or her body. I can't imagine how the Smarts will cope with that, they are the ones who have to live with this for the rest of their lives. And if Elizabeth is still alive, well, I'm sure her life is hell. And how about MK? Growing up, and reading all this stuff, she doesn't have an easy road ahead of her either. Child abductions are horrible tragedies, and the wounds go beyond that abducted child...

There are people on this board that don't believe the police and there are people on this board that have a hard time believing Ed. I'm one of them. I'm sure it is a fact that you heard Ed say that the police didn't want him asking specific questions of MK, but until I hear the police confirm this, I don't necessarily believe Ed.

There have been too many times Ed and the police say different things. Ed said he reported the burglary, the police said no, then someone interrupted the police spokeman and he said Ed did report it.

Ed said the email was given to the police, the police said no. Ed told a reporter he gave it to the police himself. Ed later said that the reporter was incorrect and he didn't say he gave it to the police, but that the person who sent it to him gave it to the police. Then the story was that maybe the police had received a fax.

It seems like anything Ed doesn't want to answer, he says the police wont let him say anything about it, but he didn't mind getting up and talking about the email that the police didn't seem to know about.
