This thread, hopefully, will be dedicated to parenting issues conservative face on a daily basis. The issues will be broad, but the primary focus will be on current events and how they effect raising children in today's liberal society.
I can not always start a new thread if we need one, so I envision a group effort. If a thread needs to be created, start one. There is no point person per se. We are all parents, we are all busy, and we can all take initiative when needed. Heck, we are parents.
This topic discussion is not just limited to parents, those who want to experience our parenting styles but have no children are welcome. We can learn from everyone. Young adults are especially welcome to add their perspective.
These are in no way set rules, but my ideas. Let's add to them, delete from them, or chuck the entire idea if it is too cheesy. (I just had to, sorry)
Let me try to explain how the Mean Mommies started. (Mo1, correct any inaccuracies) During the June Fundraiser, Mo1, expressed how she was being bombarded by neighbor kids (here after known as the 'village idiots') and the daily hassle it was because he Village Idiots were intruding on her family. Now, those kids live literally in her bushes. They appear at 6:00 AM, 2:00, PM, at dinner, or when the family is heading out to the beach. They are there constantly. So, Mo1, has put her foot down. The Village Idiots are allowed over some times, but not every waking second of every day. Mo1's kids hate her because they get grounded just to avoid the Village Idiots, and had dubbed her a Mean Mommy.
So, Mo1, are the Village Idiots still hassling your family?
This is the initial group. If this thread is a success, we all have to keep it updated. I can not be expected to run this on a daily basis, we all have to. That's where I need assurance from this core group, can we depend on you? There seems to be a huge interest with parenting, so we will need everyone to 'parent' these threads. Post your updates periodically for the rest of us. I can not spend every day here, just like all other parents and families. (Heh, I'd be single if that happened)
So, what do you all think? Good idea? Bad Idea? Can this be successful? Let's at least start the discussion, see where it leads.

Maybe a bon fire party, at Halloween might be fun. We have an old barn, and could have a 'barn dance' with all the trimmings, and a theme where they dress as hillybillies.
Now, that sounds like a great idea! And your younger daughter could be a part of it, too.

Anything can be rationalized; and if someone is looking for an excuse to do or permit an action or activity they will.
Is this a hill you are willing to die on,... because you might. Then when it is too late shake your head and mutter "how could I have been so stupid?"
Very bad idea to have or allow alcohol for underage drinkers. We have a local case when a parent did just that. Much later there was a wreck and two were killed and one injuried. Very serious lawsuit resulted.
No matter what you think, young people make mistakes and misjudgements. They have hidden keys located on their cars in case of losing their keys and all sorts of variables, plus their thinking changes after a few beers.
As Dr. Laura would say .. "honor your husband and set a good example for you daughters. Both of them.."
In case It isn't clear ... this is a bad idea.
Say No! Hey! you asked.

Think we should start a similar thread for the homeschoolers, to discuss homeschooling in general? (Aside from the usual articles we ping each other to?)

Gotta agree with other posters--have the party but no alcohol and no sleepover! Otherwise there will be sex. You know deep down it'll happen. You'll also need to be AT the party too, not just in the house, otherwise they'll keep the booze in their cars. After all, you mentioned some of the kids who would attend are over 21 and of legal age to purchase alcohol.
Good luck!

I wouldn't mind a discussion about home schooling on this thread. Maybe we could incorporate it? Lots of mean mommies are homeschoolers. What do you all think?

I wouldn't mind a discussion about home schooling on this thread.
Sounds good to me! Although my boys attend a private Christian school, I'm always interested in what the homeschooling folks have to say.

"Village Idiots" is the PERFECT moniker for this thread if you are even CONSIDERING this potential debacle WIMom.
For ALL the reasons already stated and recapped.
May I relate this true story: We live in a very upscale town, full of professionals and artists/writers. On evening I received a phone call from a neighbor, a DOCTOR, who explained about a party he and his wife were planning for their 18 y/o daughter. The type of party you described to a T. He said his call was a "heads up" because he didn't want the neighbors to be surprised about the large numbers of cars and noise that might come from his area in two weeks. He (stupidly) asked if "I minded."
That unleashed a tirade from me since my boys were 16, 18 and 20 at the time. Not only was it against the law, but several nuisance laws were to be broken as well (noise, cars parked on a narrow rural roadway ... what if firetrucks needed to get through, etc.) I told him clearly that just because he had "doctor" in front of his name, didn't mean he had any brains.
Well, the upshot of it was that kids came from not only other towns, but places that were out of the school district and some were from neighboring states. A neighbor who lived nearer this "village idiot" called the local police because she could see everything from her bedroom window and her 12 y/o daughter was very impressionable. The constables came and did not enter the property. I later found out the doc was well connected to the Democrat party in town ("rat First Selectman) and two of the constable's children were at the party. Another neighbor eventually called the State Police who entered the property and took away the drugs and alcohol. I don't know, to this day if any arrests/citations were made, but for a year afterward, vandals kept smashing ALL the mailboxes on our street in "retaliation" for the police being called (except the mailbox of the doctor/host). It all finally ended after these kids went off to college.
Good luck. But if you THINK about it, your decision should be VERY clear. &;-)

Got this in my e-mail tonight. Is this timely or what?
Mean Moms
All moms are mean for a reason. As we grow into adults we know why our moms were mean. Someday when my children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them:
I loved you enough........to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home.
I loved you enough........to insist that you save your money and buy a bike for yourself even though we could afford to buy one for you.
I loved you enough........to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend was a creep.
I loved you enough........to make you go pay for the bubble gum you had taken and tells the clerk, "I stole this yesterday and want to pay for it."
I loved you enough........to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes.
I loved you enough........to let you see anger, disappointment and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that their parents aren't perfect.
I loved you enough........to let you assume the responsibility for your actions, even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart.
But most of all, I loved you enough.........to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it.
Those were the most difficult battles of all. I'm glad I won them because in the end you won, too. And someday when your children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them..........
Was your Mom mean?
I know mine was. We had the meanest mother in the whole world! While other kids ate candy for breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs and toast.
When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches.
And you can guess that our mother fixed us a dinner that was different from what other kids had, too.
Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times.
You'd think we were convicts in a prison.
She had to know who our friends were and what we were doing with them.
She insisted that if we said we would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less.
We were ashamed to admit it, but she had the nerve to break the Child Labor Laws by making us work. We had to wash the dishes, make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry, empty the trash and all sorts of cruel jobs.
I think she would lie awake at night thinking of more things for us to do.
She always insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
By the time we were teenagers, she could read our minds. Then, life was really tough!
Mother wouldn't let our friends' just honk the horn when they drove up. They had to come up to the door so she could meet them.
While everyone else could date when they were 12 or 13, we had to wait until we were 16.
Because of our mother, we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced.
None of us have ever been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's property or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault.
Now that we have left home, we are all educated, honest adults. We are doing our best to be mean parents just like Mom was.
I think that is what's wrong with the world today. It just doesn't have enough mean moms.
PASS THIS ON TO ALL THE MEAN MOTHERS YOU KNOW............> >>> (And Their Kids Too
