Which version of Linux should I try out?

I want to learn Linux and have ample room on my system to set it up for a dual-boot. However, which "flavor" of Linux should the "uninitiated-yet-computer-savvy" user go for? I've seen people refer to Lindows, Redhat, Mandrake, and several other varieties. Which is best option, and why? Thanks!

I found Mandrake to be the easiest to install and to start using.

Once you've figured out how to use Linux, and decided which windows manager you want to use, etc - then you'll be more likely to know which distro you'd find most useful.

Thanks. I've seen Mandrake retail boxes at the local Wal Mart for around $29.97. I'm guessing that the install must be easy if Wally World is selling it! So would you say that the main differences in the types of Linux are really the "presentation" (a.k.a. desktop managers) and all the background is basically the same?

If your just starting out, use Mandrake. If you have broadband and a burner, d_load the ISO instead of purchasing a copy.

Mandrake. The install is very easy to use, I can usually get a system up and running within 30 minutes. Mandrake also has some very nice utilities to manage the system.

If you're looking for a 'desktop' type install (as opposed to a 'server' type), go with Mandrake.

Are you near any Linux user groups? People at one would be likely to supply you with quick assistance.

I use Gentoo Linux. It's not for the computer novice, but if you are willing to be patient, you'll end up with a better-optimized system that is easier to keep up-to-date.

Appreciate the feedback; I'll take a peek at both of them and see which one looks best-suited for me!
