Wildfires in the west are consuming acerage at a rate about double the usual 10-year average.

China is planning to buy eight more Russian submarines.

President Bush has signalled he does not want to see AMTRAK shut down.

And shares of the Martha Stewart company Living Omnimedia fell by 18% yesterday.

Continuing with the weather coverage in between phone calls, we are now tracking the storm into Shelby County (biggest city is the county seat, Shelbyville) and I guess they are going to continue weather coverage until the last raindrop falls. Actually, this is rather funny.

Jane ~~~ one of the Charlotte tv stations goes into special programming during severe weather and has that sort of thing ..... they show their super-duper radar that can zoom in on the exact locations of severe weather, they have reporters around town, but they also have anchors in the studio who take calls like that from citizens in the area ..... they get citizen reports as well as asking questions that the meteorologists answer ..... it's a tremendous public service.

Guennie ~~~ have been to St. Augustine but it's been years .... we may go there Saturday after the conference and not come home til Sunday ..... will just play that by ear.

I caught the President's remarks, too, Guennie! It's just beyond me that people can be so vicious in attacking such a good man. I may not agree with everything he says and does but it's just so obvious that he's a sincere, decent, Christian man ..... I'm just so thankful to have him as President.

What really has me stumped is that they have all three of these cars in custody (although I heard they released the other two, but not the Jeep) and they are looking for ANYONE that has information about him and this Jeep from May 31-June 8th. I am thinking that I remember the police saying that his alibi did not check out. He also failed the polygraph.

The poor Smarts. They must be rueing the day they let him in their house.

Thank you, illstillbe. She is on Librax? I believe that is the name of it. It seems that she was only taking it twice a day, went back to the doctors a month ago or so and he upped the dosage to 3x a day. The third one hits her the hardest and she goes into lala land. I witnessed this myself.

I will tell you this: Cameron is the most, absolute, beautiful, precious, darling little baby girl. We spent a lot of time together; on Friday we took a nap together, her little head on my shoulder and her sweet, soft baby breath on my cheek. It was like being in Heaven. I miss her so much. And when she woke up, she sat up and looked at me and said, "Hi". ROFLOL!!! All she does is laugh and laugh and laugh...Mark was quite taken with her.

I can't even imagine the pain the Smarts are in. And then to realize that perhaps they hired a man involved in their daughter's abduction??? Many prayers for this poor family, and for Elizabeth.

Yes, he was wonderful, wasn't he? I was folding towels while watching him. I swear, (not any bad words) everytime he talks he makes me so proud. No fake tears, no fake sympathy only to be caught off guard laughing after a funeral; no redefining of definitions.

My sister and I refer to him as "John Wayne". ;-)

One more comment about Ricci. A couple of weeks ago, there was a theory floating around, the Smarts mentioned it and the police mentioned it, that Elizabeth may have been stalked by someone. I'm wondering if that is why the police want to know what Ricci was doing May 31 to June 8 (Elizabeth was abducted early morning June 5.) This is just creepy.

One thing became very apparent after the September 11 attacks. This President has a true concern for people, and it allows him to connect in ways the cretin who occupied the White House before him could only dream of.

I have this feeling that there is more to Ricci than they are saying. Why would he confess to all those other crimes, knowing he would be facing most of his life in prison but not tell them where Elizabeth is? Do you think there are other people involved in this besides him? I have a feeling this is some type of set-up that he pulled off. Or else, he did it himself. They said that they took some evidence from his home, that his wife was cooperating. A reporter asked the Police Chief yesterday if Ricci had any children (I guess to see if he had any background of sexual assualt) but they said he only had step children. Now, I know you are not particularly fond of Mark Klaas, but he said last night that the man that abducted and killed his daughter had NO previous records. Also the FBI profiler lady that's been on the news shows said it would not surprise her at all that he didn't. She said "This does not indicate to me that he, if he took her, would sexually assault her." Hm. So what is really going on? The only hope I have is that he knew the children, and they knew him, and that he would not hurt her.

Re your #156: maybe that's why they wanted to talk to Edmunds so badly...maybe they thought that he saw him in the neighborhood. I wonder what Edmunds has told them. Whatever it is, it's really turned up the heat in this case. But none of those cars they wanted information about matches the car the milkman said he saw...it didn't even match Edmunds car. The press keep forgetting that fact. The milkman said it was an older model Toyota or Honda, silverish-green, not the brand new Saturn that Edmunds was driving. He was very adamant about that when Alicia Akuna interviewed him. He also said that the man he saw that morning did not match Edmunds description. So what DID Edmunds see, if anything?
