LOL! I love it! I keep forgetting that this is the place to get all the news that is news and some that isn't! Too cute!
You're so right, and I was a dollar a day contributor last year, and plan to do the same this year. Ever since I decided this was better than getting the newspaper delivered, and having to bother to throw it away then too, not to mention the censoring that goes on in the local fishwrap, I decided to spend pretty much the same amount here at FR.
But HLL, you've got me thinking that maybe this is something to use for leverage in getting the Guild in the news section. We are certainly up on that, and people here post items as quickly or more quickly than others. So it does seem a bit unfair.
Nutz to being listed in news - I want a BUTTON. Please join in with whatever amount works for you. heheh
Think good thoughts for this venture. ;-)
With Ozzy Osbourne's success, next is another reality TVer based on Anna Nicole Smith. Title? "Leave It to Cleavage" (Cindy Adams, NY Post)
Signs of the Apocalypse:
SOME celebrity canines have it "ruffer" than others. Janet Jackson's Rottweiler, Riley, is staying at his own $279-a-night room at the Waldorf Towers in South Beach while Jackson readies her new Fisher Island digs. (Page Six)
More political news:
WHEN even the Times is picking up on the rumor that Rudy Giuliani may be a homeland security czar, you know it's widespread. Some conservative Republicans on the Hill are aggressively pushing the idea, I hear, because they think that Rudy would fail at this daunting task and thus knock off his halo and the perception that he's the future of the GOP. (Neal Travis, NY Post)
This already has been discussed, but:
NO one knew they were bosom buddies, but Bill Clinton is apparently on the list of 300 nearest and dearest invited to today's Paul McCartney/Heather Mills nuptials. They say he's taking daughter Chelsea (who's become quite the belle of the London balls) [is that the same as a falling-down drunk?] as his date. Maybe the former president will borrow a sax and back-up Ringo Starr as he recites the words of "All You Need Is Love."
Former Beatle Paul can be a bit precious at times - I wish he'd keep the vegan thing to himself - but he's not cheap. Today's wedding is said to be setting him back around $3 million ....(Neal Travis)
BBC reports on the McCartney-Mills wedding:
....And the US reporters lived up to their stereotypes of being being big loud men and immaculate women with big smiles and bright jackets. CNN's Richard Quest was the star among starwatchers with his trenchcoat, red umbrella and booming voice. One onlooker suggested that he was so loud because CNN did not use a satellite, just two tin cans and a very long piece of string. story
Ari news:
Open mouth. Insert loafer. In a stunning (well, really, is it?) admission, chief White House flack Ari Fleischer 'fessed up yesterday: President Bush didn't actually read a 268-page federal report that blamed global warming on oil refineries, cars and people. Still, his boss dissed the report last week.
"I read the report put out by the bureaucracy," Bush said, before reiterating his opposition to the international Kyoto treaty on global warming that the U.S. refuses to sign. "Whenever Presidents say they read it, you can read that to be he was briefed," Fleischer answered when asked if Bush had read the report.
Then he suddenly realized that, perhaps, he had been just a tad too frank and open. "I've enjoyed working here, thank you," he told the White House gaggle of reporters to hoots of laughter. NY Daily News
Tony Rodham news (update):
Documentary filmmaker Nicole Boxer, daughter of Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), yesterday confirmed a New York Daily News report that she's suing ex-husband Tony Rodham, brother of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, for nonpayment of child support for their nearly 7-year-old son, Zachary. "We did go to court to make a statement for the record, and I'm hoping it'll be rectified without having to go to trial," Nicole Boxer told us yesterday about the Rush and Molloy column's report that the 47-year-old Rodham hasn't paid child support in more than six months. Rodham, who was linked to Bill Clinton's last-minute presidential pardon controversy as well as an abortive scheme to import hazelnuts from the Black Sea country Georgia, didn't return our phone call. But Boxer clearly wants to settle the dispute. "Tony's a great father," she said. "He's really good with Zack. [Apparently, she has no problem with that incident at the cabin, where Tony was boinking the local skank while Zack slept upstairs and the skank's jealous boyfriend broke in to beat Tony to a pulp] WashPost
This is a money challenge to Free Republic's owners. Just as soon as a working hot-link (in some circles called a hyper-link) is prominently, and permanently, featured on FR's homepage, BADJOE may happily mash my plastic for 500 bones.
Thank you very much. JL
Estonia, Dubai and Ireland within a 24-hour span? Isn't x42 just too, too energetic? Thank goodness for his white powdery friend - it keeps him going!
