Boxing has a kind of irresistible magnetism for the fake, celluloid "tough guys" and their floozies, who spend their lives pretending to be something they're not. If you are talking about boxing today, you are probably right. It's as phony as a $3 bill. But there was a time when the sport attracted men who were not only great physical specimens, but some of them had incredible mental ability, too. The turn of the century was boxing's greatest era. So if you are talking about the sport in general - and not just modern boxing - you are way off base.

Nice screenshot. You just forgot the big baggy shorts, and all the "beautiful people" in the audience.
Very nice work though.

On any given night there are 5 guys riding the A train in NYC who could beat the hell out of Tyson and Lewis combined.
I finally, for the first time in my life ,shelled out money to watch a prize fight.
When I was a kid these things used to be on the networks for free.
I could care less who wins, I am just bored.
Approximately 150 days until election day.

Marshmellow,Are you calling me a floozie,,well!!! I am shocked. So do they start pretty soon, losing interest here. Wonder if Mike will bite again. Someone was telling me the other day he was justified because Evander whoever was head-butting him and that is dangerous.

Tonight? Nope, sorry... the US game is at 11:30PDT Sunday night...
Tonight, Saturday... the games are
Mexico vs Ecuador 11:30PM PDT
Costa Rica vs Ecuador 2:00AM PDT
Japan vs Russia 4:30am PDT
Tomorrow, Sunday... the games are
USA VS South Korea 11:30 PM PDT
Tunisia vs Belgium 2:00 AM PDT
Portugal vs Poland 4:30 AM PDT
The portugal poland game is between the other two teams in the US group. If the US beat Korea, and Poland Portugal tie, the US qualifies for the second round, even before they play Poland in game 3.

My dad watched the friday nite fights from the time we got a tv in 1949 I think. I was a little girl and loved those nites, windows open, attic fan going, us drinking lemonade and having brownies. They were at 9pm and started with Gillettes blue blades commercials,,my dad and alot of his peers in the Deep South both boxed growing up and loved the sport. Alot of them boxed in the service. Fond memories of the friday nite fights.

I'm working on that right now.......

I am listening. The callers like Tyson. My opinion is that Tyson's career is over. Old and tired.

Nice job with the BBC link. I might listen to that for drama, then review Lampley, etc. afterwards.
What do you all think of James Brown? He is part of the new Sporting News Radio team that went from great radio guys like Bob Kemp and Jay Mariotti to mediocre (IMO) guys like Brown and Brando.
However, for some "he never offends anyone" type reason, Brown is growing on me. He seems real. Am I crazy?

I remember the FNF too. My dad and grandmother (!) would watch them together. Remember...."How are you fixed for blades (you better check..." Also sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon, I think.

That was Tommy Hearns.

You've captured the environment perfectly, except we had one of those window coolers, with the water dripping on the back porch.
Where are you from? I'm married for 26 years to a coon-ass from Lake Charles. I do love to go there for a visit at Christmas; in fact, we're talking about buying some property and retiring in Lake Charles. What a beautiful place!
