Having Problems with "Self Search" Function
Posted on 03/10/2002 10:46:38 AM PST by Richard Axtell
Has anyone here had the following problem with the "Self Search" function? When I choose "Self Search" I get a listing from early November, 2001, and no more recent postings or replies are shown. When I select "more", the same old lisitngs are reloaded. I have asked JimRob about this, but he does not know the source of the problem, and I guess is busy with many other things. Any ideas what might cause/or fix this problem? You might send me a private freepmail if you have something constructive to add, since I cannot see your replies using "Self Search" Thanks to you in advance.

I hope this is an easy fix, as I need my Freep fix, and not getting responses and seeing the complete threads is frustrating.

each forum has it's own self search in the top center. i just hit your "find in forum" in your profile, and see new posts... dunno what it means.

Chit Chat has it's own "Self Search" database, but when I am logged into any of the other Forums, I get the same listing from early November, 2001 that I mentioned in my origial post... nothing else! I just got done trying this with most of the Forums, and this is the current situation.

Sounds like a personal problem........

Well, with only 16 previous articles posted on the whole Chit-Chat forum,
let me be the first to point out that THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN POSTED:
What happened to self-search?

You might try clearing your disk and memory cache, deleting your Free Republic bookmarks from your browser, deleting your Free Republic cookies, logoff, exit from Free Republic, then come in again. When you come back in, make sure you include our full URL: http://www.freerepublic.com (including the "www."). You may be able to get to FR without the "www." but your cookies may get stored incorrectly and some functions may not work properly. Don't know for sure if this is the problem, but it has cleared up some strange happenings for some posters.

Try putting To:"Richard Axtell" or From:"Richard Axtell" in the Articles/Replies search box at the top of the forum page (include the quotation marks). This doesn't solve your problem, but at least you will be able to find current From/To replies.

Thank you Jim, I will follow your recomendations, and will report what happens. I understand you are busy, and I appreciate your response to my post.

Go to the Settings page (link at top of this thread) and change your LISTING from Ascending to Descending.

Go to the Settings page (link at top of this thread) and change your LISTING from Ascending to Descending. This didn't work for me. I even went back and tried both ways. I'll wait for awhile till the kinks are worked out, unless someone else has any ideas??? Jim's busy....someone else....HELP!

Self searching is easy. Just pull up your shirt and your undershirt. It's that little round hole in the middle of your belly. The place with the lint in it...

OK, I found it!! Now what???
To: jellybean
First, clean out all the lint and other stuff. Then put your eye up to it and tell me what you see.

I am having the opposit problem. My selfsearch has every
posting I have posted and replies from freepers,
and all the threads that have been pinged to
me since Jim changed servers back whenever that was.
It used to be they would just go away but not
anymore. At least not on my computer.
I will try what JimRob said and delete my cookies and log on
again. I don't want to lose my bookmarks though
anyway I can save them Jim?
Rich, Let me know if it worked for you.

Your recommendation seems to have solved the problem, and I thank you. Changes in the web site programing must have set the default to "Old on top..." starting with 11/16/01.... now it looks about right to me. Thanks again, everybody.
