Greens deputy leader Steph Hodgins-May has taken the unusual step of confronting one of her online abusers, revealing she regularly faces “misogynistic and violent” comments while doing her job.
The Victorian senator told nine.com.au that she is targeted by cruel comments, often including violent threats, almost every time she shares a post or video online.
Greens senator Steph Hodgins-May said she faces online abuse almost every time she posts on social media.
The stream of online vitriol has taken its toll, particularly following the tragic alleged attack on Indi MP Helen Haines, with the incident garnering bipartisan support for the protection and safety of women in parliament.
Hodgins-May decided to make an example out of one commenter after waking to a “deeply offensive” Instagram remark on Thursday.
She filmed herself contacting a man she was able to trace online after his comment labelled her a “stupid b*tch”.
During the call, Hodgins-May said the man denied it was “violent language” and refused to apologise.

She called the lawyer back to "shame" him.
And posted the call. Apparently, that's illegal. Of course, the fawning media coverage "forgets" to mention that little factoid.
She...called...a...LAWYER... 😂😂🤡🤪🤪
“...Steph may have acted very, well, stupidly in recording the call and posting it online because under New South Wales law where the guy’s based, recording private phone calls without consent is illegal. And publishing it online is a separate offense that carries a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison. And in Victoria, where she’s based, it’s strictly illegal to post a private conversation online without consent. And the guy she did it to is a lawyer. Whoops.”
OUCH! 😉😂😂
She really needs a different stylist.
Or to wash her hair.
Probably would make her a more cheerful person.
