Two days before the midterms, the people running the Trump White House quietly confirmed what the rest of us have been screaming about for two years. They don’t care who wins. They’ve already built the machine that runs without a legislature, and they’ve been building it since April.
That’s the Reuters story that dropped this morning, and it’s the one Ed Krassenstein was yelling about on X before most of you had coffee. A White House official and two other people familiar with the plans told Reuters that Stephen Miller, Russell Vought and the White House Counsel’s Office have spent seven months identifying every executive action Trump can take on immigration, tariffs, housing and federal spending without a single vote in Congress. Not a contingency plan. A governing plan. For a government that has just been told by the voters to stop.

However, know your enemy.
The White House should be prepared to govern this country without the House, assuming we keep the Senate.
Get the Senate to pass the budget or something. And skip the House.
He does have a pen and a phone so why not?
Good. Congress is pretty feckless even with republican majority.
bttt
you beat me to it....
So, they’re saying Trump has a phone and a pen?
This
Secret Plan? We’ve known about the “phone and pen” thing for about 15 years.
so they’ve been working on this for 7 months and American Pravda is just finding out about it??
These folks just discovered the sky is blue. That Trump will be exercising executive orders to get things done. How the hell do they think the government has been run for the last 25 years with no one party having a filibuster proof senate. Very little has been done by legislation. Most has been done by executive order, and when Dems have the Supreme Court by executive order and the Supreme Court serving as their legislative body.
Why even bother to post this as if news?
I missed the part that the president has powers regardless of whom wins in midterms was lost on that bunch.
Oh, oh, the ever present un-named sources strike again!
Reuters is an open sewer. They have gotten much worse since 24.
File this tread under the CFS (Crazy Fxxxxxx Sxxx) forum.

The only Dean I trust is Dean Wormer.
And Trump flat-out stated at one of his rallies that if we lose House and/or Senate he will veto everything so Congress has to negotiate with him. That’s called “checks and balances” and there’s nothing secret about it at all. In fact, it is the Founders’ way to have accountability. And that accountability - the thing that separates free nations from banana republics - is the reason that the DSA and their democrat caucus openly want to get rid of the Constitution, along with the Presidency, Supreme Court, Senate, borders, and jails.
That word “secret” doesn’t seem to mean what these people think it means.
So how is it odd to say someone in America will have to get along without Congress?
We waited for daylight savings time changeovers to end. We waited for the voter ID legislation if not the whole Save America Act to pass-—80% and sometimes 90% wanted it. Once we waited for a better health plan than Obamacare (passed in the middle of the night). And the old cable tv “reform” raised rates and lowered choices until a second year’s legislation with a bottom of the barrel choice as “improvement” since it was cheap-—CNN and PBS guaranteed.
Every time the long winded threats and government shutdowns loom Congress goes on YET ANOTHER vacation (adjournment, recess, end of voting session) despite the revelation once that Congress works 3 days-—Tues-Thurs usually with staff doing paper shuffling at other times.
“They have several recess periods each year that total roughly 10–12 weeks, plus federal holidays, with some days off used for district work or elections.”

Fun, in a sad humor way, report on No Labels.
How much has Congress actually done this year?
Through August 31, 2026, the House held floor votes on just 65 days – the fewest through this point in any comparable midterm election year since 1994, according to No Labels’ analysis. The House spent 383 hours in session, the lowest in our midterm-year comparison going back to 1990. And Congress enacted just 34 public bills into law, also the lowest in the comparison since 1990.
The House Has Voted on Just 65 Days
There are 243 days from January 1 through August 31. If you are a full-time employee with a standard five-day workweek, you probably worked around 165 of them, depending on how generous your holiday and PTO policy is.
But the House held floor votes on 65 of those days, just over a quarter of the time.
