Within the last week, Edge quit finding freerepublic.com. https://freerepublic.com/home.htm works, but clicking any link gives the NXDOMAIN failure. If I go to chrome, on the same pc, it works? Any ideas?

Edge sux, and spies on you. Stop using it
Tried Edge after your comments. It works.
All of them spy on you.
I use Pale Moon. It’s a form of Firefox to view Free Republic.
Microsoft is worse. Yes, they all can spy but you can mitigate it, at the browser level. That doesn’t mean you aren’t still tracked by IP and at the ISP level, but VPNs help with that.
Edge and chrome very bad choices , no privacy
Any ideas?
Stop using Edge.................
On my PC, I use Brave as my browser with Duck, Duck Go as my search engine. This mitigates the bias and tracking that is often used by tech commies to downgrade and block search results from sites like FR.
Microsoft Edge frequently triggers NXDOMAIN errors if its internal Secure DNS provider misbehaves, even if the rest of your computer’s internet works perfectly.
1. Open Microsoft Edge.
2. In the address bar, type edge://settings/privacy and press Enter.
3. Scroll down to the Security section.
4. Locate Use secure DNS to specify how to lookup the network address for websites.
5. Toggle this option OFF, or switch it to Use current service provider.
6. Refresh Free Republic to see if it loads.
bkmk
The use secure dns is toggled off and it thinks my browser is managed, however, dsregcmd /status shows it’s not joined to AzureAd, a domain or workplace. This computer is fairly old and is Win10. I am retired but used to use symantec vpn.
In Edge, enter:
edge://policy
Then select Reload policies.
Look for policies showing Status. What do you see?
Only one policy:
RedirectSitesFromInternetExplorerRedirectMode
0
Platform
Device
Mandatory
OK
In Edge, type this in the address bar: edge://net-internals/#dns
Press Enter.
You should see a button labeled Clear host cache.
Select Clear host cache once.
close every Edge window completely.
Then reopen Edge and go to:
https://freerepublic.com/home.htm
Select one of the links that previously failed.
Stop there. Tell me whether:
A. It works now, or
B. You still get the NXDOMAIN error.
FR is crawling these days. Multiple posts from impatient FReepers, gateway errors, etc.
Still get the NXDOMAIN error. It’s odd because it worked up to about a week ago. I haven’t changed anything on this pc. I do note that edge thinks it’s managed and chrome does not. I can’t find what could be managing edge. I even deleted some old work related software, don’t need it now that I’m retired.
“FR is crawling these days. Multiple posts from impatient FReepers, gateway errors, etc.”
It was loading really slow for about a week before it finally just wouldn’t load.
Huh. On the NXDOMAIN error page, look near the bottom for the exact error code. It may say something like:
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN
or:
ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
