ot the least of Donald Trump’s achievements is his successful effort to disarm federal government agencies.
Since the turn of the century – and probably much longer – there has been a tendency by federal agencies to create their own private SWAT teams, equipped with everything from Humvees to armored vehicles and armed with military-grade automatic weapons. While some of these made a minimal kind of sense (the Bureau of Land Management has had problems with marijuana cultivators and the Bureau of Indian Affairs has memories of the deadly 1973 Wounded Knee confrontation), most didn’t. One of the more puzzling involved the Internal Revenue Service.
No one has ever quite explained exactly what the IRS was doing with the massive armory it acquired. Over the past twenty years, the IRS spent over $35 million on firearms and related hardware. These guns included Smith and Wesson M&P-15 AR-15 platform rifles, Heckler and Koch HK 416 rifles, Beretta 1301 tactical shotguns, and Remington 870 Police model shotguns (no cheap Mossbergs for these guys). The purchases also included body armor and ballistic shields. As far as anybody knows, the IRS didn’t possess any armored cars or other tactical vehicles.
But the spending really ramped up under Joe Biden (I know, who would ever have guessed?) In short order, $474,000 was spent on S&W M&P-15s, $463,000 on Beretta shotguns, and $2.5 million on various types of armor. By 2019, the IRS had 4500 guns and a jaw-dropping five million rounds of ammunition. But as the 2020s opened, the agency spent another $10 million on firearms and related items.
It was the vast ammunition purchases that caused the most disquiet among the public, particularly since this came at the same time that Biden provided the agency with $80 billion to hire 87,000 new agents

Why does The Department of Education need a SWAT team?
“Why does The Department of Education need a SWAT team?”
Homeschoolers?
To make sure you have no say when they turn your 12 year old boy into a girl.
In case some parent complains that the school transed their child without even notifying the parents.
I voted for this!
What are they doing with the stuff they already bought? Yard Sale?
Why does the federal government need a department of education?
The reloaders responded and within a year, the market for components was in the same shape. Powder, primers, even popular projectiles became unobtainable. I will never get caught-out on this crap again.
Those existing IRS arms and ammunition should go to LE, NOT Brownshirts.
“Why does The Department of Education need a SWAT team?”
Pretty obvious - when a teacher who actually wants to educate kids slips through their massive firewall preventing just that.
They talk about Biden (or his handlers) arming the government, but who here remembers the Obama administration ordering hundreds of millions of rounds for all sorts of agencies, including NOAA?
Force all of them to get rid of all of it. They are not a law enforcement agency. They don’t need their own mini armies.
Better still, force them to auction all of those weapons, ammo and gear off to the public.
They are scared of the public. They should be.
Apparently, the most dangerous government job is the game warden.
The poachers are by definition armed and often quite confrontational!
But yes, most agencies should not be issued any guns.
If IRS agent feels threatened, he is welcome to buy his own gun!
“I firmly believe Hussein Obama intended to position the IRS as his own Brownshirts”
Exactly. And also buying up all the ammo would leave the public with nothing buy in the first place.
I say, instead of sending everyone $5000, they send those guns out to everyone.
IIRC Bush started arming fed agencies to take the load off the FBI, who traditionally handled armed arrests. This way, they’d have more time to deal w/terrorism, however, they just spent the extra time going after political enemies at home.
The first big story demonstrating the absurdity was the raid by the “weather police” on a vendor that was selling a protected species of coral. It was under the department of commerce, which NOAA is under, hence the moniker.
Monday, I spent three hours on hold with the irs. They are charging me a significant penalty for not pre-paying my taxes in 2025. All I heard was elevator music. Yesterday, I called over 20 times and the message was “due to a high volume of callers….” I finally got through around 1 PM and was on hold over two hours. They finally picked up. But, as I expected, “there is just nothing I can do over the phone, comrade. Just pay the fine like a good little boy”. $631 down the drain. It’s probably gone through Minnedishu and is in Somalia by now.
Send all that armament to Ukraine.
In a public example of the 2A, sell off all non-full automatic firearms to the public.
Have you seen some the of the Schools in Chicago or DC?
DoE is probably the most justified for a SWAT team.
