Like most of the West, America has entered a fertility crisis. The U.S. fertility rate hit an all-time low in 2024, with a languid 53.8 births per 1,000 women of childbearing age (15 to 44), which works out to a mere 1.6 children per woman. It takes no math degree to recognize that this birth rate is significantly less than two, which means (native-born) American society is literally, numerically in decline. Worse, the birth rate has been plunging ever since 2007 (just before the Great Recession), and no cause for reversal is in view.
While Malthusians may celebrate, the more prudent will have reason to lament this decline. A falling population does not automatically mean more food for everyone. Rather, it means fewer workers producing, fewer researchers inventing, fewer households living. When the population shrinks, colleges close, neighborhoods empty out, businesses are bankrupt. The bonds holding society together begin to shrivel up, and a smaller population staggers under the infrastructure and social safety net designed for a larger one.
For a time, policymakers can evade the consequences of a below-replacement birth rate by encouraging immigration. But incoming immigrants — even if they could be assimilated — do not change the fact that the birth rate is too low, nor that it is still falling. People who emigrate from the most culturally similar countries (such as most of Europe) hail from places with their own birth rate problem.

Duh! It’s Jooz and moozlims. The rest of us are sol.
Just watched Bret Baer interview Al Sayed on the street-contentious ending. Check it out. You can dig it.
Birthing People get with it
Yes, with a culture of high taxes, productive people have fewer kids than they may otherwise have had.
Actually, people on public assistance have more children because they don’t have to pay for medical insurance.
This is the determination factor.
Yeah, a consumer culture on top of a culture of debt and taxation requiring two working parents to pay for others, will determine family size.
It isn’t that complicated, they just don’t intellectualize themselves out of having sex and getting pregnant from it.
It’s a win, fewer people but keeping high IQ with no gene pool denigration of assimilationed population.
The other option? We’ve seen, two unctions: (joe biden) (open border)
It’s killing us in many ways!
Sorry it’s just money. People at the top have kids because they can afford it. The ones at the bottom have kids because they are paid for. It is the mass in the middle where having a kid isn’t financially feasible.
I doubt their conclusions as it is happening outside “the West,” too. Probably something in the water or air too. Very serious issue that
Yea, when I am with my woman, I am thinking culture not finances. Is “culture” her breasts?
Or is “culture” another word for mutual selfishness? That always makes the sex better, like the speeding ticket you almost didn’t get.
Oddly an almost perfect analysis that left this out. There is a subculture, that is dependent on the government and thus a larger family requires more subsidy from the government if you are not married. If married the subsidy decreases. This broke up the black family.
Firstly I must apologize for my quote from Lyndon Bains Jhonson after the passing of the Civil Rights Act in the 60s. He said, "This will have the Niggers voting democratic for the next 100 years." Yes he really said that.
The Civil Rights Act was needed legislation. It has been twisted into a political tool by the left for many years. Relative to both spouses working this is a result of expectations that cannot be met with only one spouse working Thus, one gets the big house, but the children are neglected.
My nephew and his wife were married a month ago. They want seven kids. They aren’t Catholic, but they are young and fans of Charlie Kirk (at least my nephew was). I hope they are blessed with so many children.
BS.
Both culture and finances determine family size.
To pretend that people who can barely pay the rent and put food on the table are going to have lots of kids is ridiculous.
