In an announcement Thursday, the Reds said Benzinger died on Wednesday.
Benzinger played nine seasons in the major leagues, including with the Reds from 1989 to 1991.

I was about to mention he caught the final out of the 1990 World Series to win it for the Reds, but you beat me to it. It was a pop up in foul territory just off of first base.
That is way too soon to die. RIP.
Rest In Peace, Todd.
I attended Cincinnati Reds Fantasy Camp twice, and Todd was one of the friendliest, most personable pros there. Just a really nice guy. One year his locker was next to mine and I got to talk to him quite a bit. Sad to hear this.
Not to derail the thread or anything but whenever I hear about someone roughly my age dying, I can't help but think, "Damn, he paid all that money into Socialist Security and Medicare for all those decades and never got to collect a penny of it or benefit from it.
My siblings get into a discussion about it from time to time. A couple of them are waiting till they turn 70 so they can receive the maximum amount. I signed up at 63 because there's no guarantee I'm going to live to 70 even though I'm in relatively good health.
As far as Medicare is concerned, they'll start taking 200 dollars a month out for hospitalization.
What a scam.
