Employees at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago are unionizing over their working conditions, claiming their benefits have been cut and workloads are increasing just four months after the center opened in June.
Workers circulated a letter to staff Wednesday announcing their intent to unionize, complaining about “increasing” workloads “vague responses” from administrators to a list of complaints they’d raised, the Chicago Sun Times reported.
Some of the complaints suggested that the $900 million presidential center could already be facing financial trouble.
Such complaints have led to a “high turnover rate,” with exiting employees “taking with them their institutional knowledge and expertise.”
Just how vital those four months of “institutional knowledge” was remains unclear, but the letter cited recent halting of raises and promotions, an increase in their healthcare costs and a reduction of paid time off as being chief among their woes.
And the unionizers included an ace-in-the-hole: President Obama’s own glowing words endorsing unions in 2016.

“...halting of raises and promotions...”
It looks like a Jawa Sand crawler

Or the pro-union exhibits they stand next to every day. I was there last week, and everyone had an attitude and looked miserable. I got some great footage for YouTube though.
LOLOL...”exiting employees are taking with them their institutional knowledge and expertise” and “overwork.”
WHAT institutional knowledge and expertise? How much “work” is there running a big gift shop?
Hoist!
“everyone had an attitude and looked miserable.”
You must have flown through the Philly airport!
Not a lot of ‘institutional knowledge and expertise’ after only four months either...
The Obama Presidential Center faces mounting financial and operational scrutiny due to millions of dollars in unpaid subcontractor claims, soaring construction costs, and internal worker unionization efforts.
Key Financial and Operational Issues
• Rising Costs: The project’s price tag has grown from an initial budget of roughly $330 million to an estimated $850 million to over $909 million.
• Unpaid Subcontractors: Multiple trade contractors and minority-owned businesses have filed mechanics liens and legal claims totaling well over $1 million—including individual disputes where firms like Adamson Plumbing reported millions in unpaid deficits and closures. Fresh claims worth nearly $900,000 were also filed for work on the Home Court facility.
• Endowment Shortfalls: Critics and reports highlight a significant gap in long-term maintenance funding, with the center’s permanent endowment lagging far behind its target goals.
• Worker Unionization: Staff at the center circulated a unionization letter just four months after the June opening, citing benefit cuts, rising workloads, high turnover, and administrative silence.
The Obama Foundation maintains that the campus construction has been privately funded, that disputed invoice and change-order issues are primarily managed through its prime contractors (such as Lakeside Alliance), and that it remains compliant with local agreements.
Plus, that MONSTROSITY is EYE POLLUTION!!!
“Institutional knowledge”??? Has it even been open long enough for such knowledge to accumulate let alone institutionalize?
Don’t you mean, “big grift shop?”
After four months, some people expect to be promoted to an executive position, with a comfortable six figure income befitting the position.........
“the center’s permanent endowment lagging far behind its target goals.”
Wouldn’t it be cool to see a President Trump Center in the near future far EXCEEDING its target goals?
LOL! Silly me. It is definitely the “big grift shop.”
“...a reduction of paid time off is one of their chief concerns!”
Hmmmmmmm! Does he actually do anything associated with the death star? 🤔
Terrible news for OBEYme. Who do these “bitter clingers” think they are clinging to their pay and benefits? Barry’s benefactors must bring more buck$.
