Christa Pike, a Tennessee inmate who survived Tennessee’s attempt to execute her, is conscious and speaking as she continues to receive medical care at a hospital, according to a statement from her attorneys.
“Against all odds, Christa Pike is conscious, speaking, and continues to receive critical medical care. Despite the severe damage she endured to her arms, she is still handcuffed and shackled to the bed. Her recovery is medically unprecedented. Her prognosis remains unclear but, at a minimum, we expect a long recovery,” her attorneys said in a statement.
Pike survived two ostensibly lethal doses of pentobarbital last week after prison staff tried twice to carry out her planned execution for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.

One of the greatest books of all time “The Mad King,” by Edgar Rice Burroughs had our hero Barney Custer sentenced to the firing squad by the Hungarian Army. He’s only grazed in the head and wakes up to find a guy pawing through his pockets and the corpses piled around him. “Ghoul!” he cries out and decks the shocked thief, then escapes over the wall.
HA. Me too. I giggled every time her name was mentioned.
And I live 22 miles south of Nashville so I heard it A LOT.
There should be a backup method at hand - say, a .22 pistol - to be employed if the primary method of execution does not work. It’s ridiculous that government would turn this into such a circus, and all on the taxpayer dime. End her suffering and let’s have some justice for once.
If they couldn’t find a good vein to give her a lethal injection, how did they successfully manage to take blood tests, and insert an IV needle while she was unconscious? You know they had to do those medical procedures while she was out.
This whole episode made anybody connected with the carrying out of her execution look like fools, dangerous fools, at that! This story received international attention.
Give her Emergency Citizenship and send her to Canada, she’ll have it M.A.I.D.
They know how to get the job done the first time.
It’s what they do.
Right? I don’t care… This woman had zero concern about the girl she killed. Tortured for 30 minutes or more, cut her, branded her with a pentagram, crushed her skull and kept a piece as a souvenir. Lovely woman
