The forgotten 1929 massacre that explains the Middle East today
NY Post ^ | 10/03/2026 | Yardena Schwartz

Since Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas sympathizers have insisted that we must understand the massacre in its historical context — that it did not happen in a vacuum. This much is true.

To understand this context, we need to look back at a chapter of history that predates the state of Israel by two decades. That chapter is 1929.

On Aug. 24, 1929, more than 3000 Muslim men armed with swords, axes and machetes marched through the ancient Jewish quarter of Hebron, then part of British Mandate Palestine. That Sabbath morning, they slaughtered 67 Jewish men, women and children, and wounded dozens more. Children watched as their parents were butchered by their neighbors. Rabbis and yeshiva students were castrated. Infants were murdered in their mothers’ arms. Young women were raped. Those who survived endured horrific cruelty, with fingers and limbs severed and eyes gouged.

Many victims of the Hebron massacre knew their assailants by name. Until that day, the rioters had been their friends, neighbors, coworkers and landlords. Most of Hebron’s Jews were natives of the land who spoke Hebrew and Arabic. This was the world’s oldest Jewish community, dating back to the days of Abraham and Sarah, who are believed to be buried in Hebron’s Cave of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs.

The massacre bore striking similarities to Oct. 7.

But the significance of 1929 extends far beyond these parallels. This overlooked chapter of history offers a window into the forces that shape this conflict — forces that are entirely missing from contemporary accounts of its origins.

In 1929, Jews represented 20% of a population of less than 1 million people. There was no persecution or oppression of Palestinians in 1929. To be a Palestinian was to be a Jew or an Arab living under British rule.

I have been there a few times, had friends that lived there, and have never understood the mentality of the Arab butchers that went crazy on that day. The Jews have had a constant occupation there for over 4000 years, even the Arabs recognized their right of ownership before the Muslim encroachment sought to eradicate the Jewish Presence. Here is an excerpt from Chabad: “In chapter 23 of Genesis, we read of the first tract in the Land of Israel to enter into Jewish possession.

Sixty years earlier, G‑d had told Abraham: “The entire land that you see, I will give to you and your descendants forever . . . Arise and traverse the land, in its length and in its breadth, for to you I shall give it” (Genesis 13:15,17). But this was a promise concerning the future; the land was not yet his, and Abraham took care not to even allow his sheep to graze on Canaanite property. (Indeed, this was the cause of the split between Abraham and his nephew Lot—see Rashi on Genesis 13:7.) The first part of the land of Israel to belong to the Jewish people in the actual and legal sense was the “Machpelah field and its cave” in the heart of Hebron, which Abraham purchased from Ephron the Hittite.

As our sages point out, there are three parts of Israel over which the Jewish right of ownership is most powerfully established. Even one who denies the divine promise quoted above—and reiterated by G‑d tens of times throughout the Bible—cannot contest the Jewish right over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, purchased by King David from Aravnah the Jebusite (as related in the closing verses of II Samuel); the section of Shechem (Nablus) purchased by Jacob from the family of the Canaanite ruler Hamor (Genesis 33:19); and the Machpelah field of Hebron, of which we read:

And Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the hearing of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver in negotiable currency . . .

Then Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre, that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.

The Torah recounts the Ephron-Abraham sale in great detail, including the sum of the purchase price—four hundred silver shekels. Based on this figure, the thirteenth-century sage Rabbi Yitzchak bar Yehudah (author of Paaneach Raza) makes an interesting calculation. According to Leviticus 27:16, the value of land in biblical times was 50 silver shekels for a beit kor, or 75,000 square amot (cubits). Thus, the area purchased by Abraham was eight beit kor, or 600,000 square cubits. A square cubit is the approximate area occupied by an upright human being.”

Muslims have abrogated every purchase and agreement that they ever signed, including the purchase of the Lands by their ancestors before Muhammed walked the earth, nearly 3000 years after Jewish occupation.

Islam is a cancer of the mind. But I don’t know if the Arab world can be anything but violent, even without it. It seems like they really, really enjoy rape, torture, and murder. It’s like a whole race of sociopaths.

No such thing as Palestinians as a nation. Just Jews and Arabs. And the vast majority of the latter came from what is now Jordan. The “Palestinians” have been manipulated by pan-arab nationalists, Shia extremists and communists for 70 years.

Tell the 95% of EDUCATED blacks(4 year degrees) that O.J. did it and they will disagree. Tell the 33% of NY Jooz what Mamdani thinks of them and they’ll vote for him anyway. So what’s there to know?

“It’s like a whole race of sociopaths.”

TBH, first cousin marriages haven’t done the Arab world any favors in that regard.

Cortez had lots of help from Tlaxcala and Texcoco locals who were very tired of their people being sacrificially murdered by the Aztecs.

Even Lawrence Of Arabia (T.E. Lawrence, 1917) said of the very Bedouin and Arabs he led (and loved) in WWI:

“So long as the Arabs fight tribe against tribe, so long will they be a little people, a silly people—greedy, barbarous, and cruel, as you are.”

The Arab rabble (the majority) have been raping, pillaging mutilating, murdering, showing cruelty to anyone not of their ilk since time immemorial but...

They started killing and rioting in British Mandate Palestine within 2 years after the end of WWI. In 1920, they rioted in Jaffa, killing Jews. Throughout all of the 1920’s and 1930’s they killed, maimed and slaughtered Jews outright. By 1938-39 the British FINALLY began to kill off the leaders like Izza Din Al Kassam.
The Mufti of Jerusalem Haj amin Al Husseini encouraged rioting and killing and later met with Hitler to formulate a plan for the destruction of the Jews in British Mandate Palestine.

Fast forward to 2023 and you get the same inhumane savagery that these scum are used to. The only way to stop them is by killing them.

This may not sound nice and Politically Correct but this is what the British did in the 1930’s and 40’s and...it worked.

Wake up West. The fanatics will never surrender much like the Japanese and Nazis in WWII.

When a Palestinian begins losing a war he started, he then calls it a “Genocide”.

You can’t understand how the Middle East got into this situation without understanding the lies that T.E. Lawrence unwittingly fed to the Arabs to enlist their support driving out the Turks, the implications of the Balfour Declaration, and the consequences of the Franco-British conspiracy to undermine the autonomy of the newly-minted Arab nations in order to secure control of their oil fields.

Put them all together and you get a primitive peoples forced to join a 20th Century world they neither understood nor wanted to be part of.

That was a hornet’s nest the West deliberately kicked, and we’re still paying the consequences for that act.

Easy to understand when you acknowledge that muslims are disciples of Satan.

“So long as the Arabs fight tribe against tribe, so long will they be a little people, a silly people—greedy, barbarous, and cruel, as you are.”

You get an F-minus for research. The real TE Lawrence never said that. He often called the Arabs "greedy" or "cruel," might even have called them barbarous (but not in anything I've ever read), but he never strung all three together into one sentence, much less said it to an Arabian noble.

There's plenty to criticize the Arabs for without quoting a fiction writer and attributing it to real life.

"[it] predates the state of Israel by two decades."

Important clarification: It "predates the third state of Israel by two decades". Israel is the only recognized state in the geographical region known as Palestine in the past 5,000 years. There has never -- at any time during that period -- been an arab state, a muslim state or certainly never a "palestinian" state in this, for emphasis, geographical region known as Palestine.
