Fresno County man leaves scene after allegedly killing woman in DUI hit-and-run

A Fresno County man accused of driving drunk, striking and killing a woman, and then leaving the scene appeared in court Friday on multiple felony charges stemming from a crash earlier this week.

Sunil Sunil, 31, is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, fleeing the scene of a crime and other felony offenses related to the death of 26-year-old Delia Valladares.

"Driving under the influence and killing someone? You have a conscious disregard for human life," said Action News legal analyst Tony Capozzi.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers initially responded early Wednesday morning to reports of a traffic collision in Easton. Investigators said Sunil told officers he had struck a parked vehicle hours earlier.

Authorities became suspicious when the damage to his vehicle did not match the crash he described. After additional questioning, CHP officials say Sunil admitted he had struck a pedestrian and left the scene.

Capozzi said the alleged decision to flee could significantly increase any potential sentence if Sunil is convicted.

"That's a major violation of the law. It adds four to five years on your sentence on top of any other sentence you get for the vehicular manslaughter," Capozzi said.

Investigators later searched the surrounding area and found Valladares near Elm and American avenues, along with debris believed to have originated from Sunil's vehicle.

Sunil was subsequently arrested at a residence on Williamette Avenue near Washington Union High School.

"You know when you get in a car and you're under the influence, you're in a deadly weapon, and that's what he's charged with here," Capozzi said.

Court records indicate Sunil has no prior DUI convictions.

As the criminal case moves forward, future hearings are expected to provide additional details about the events leading up to the crash and the defendant's condition at the time.

"The question I would have is: Was he so intoxicated that he didn't know what really happened before or how it happened? That would be egregious," Capozzi said.

Sunil remains charged with four felony counts related to the crash. His next court appearance has not yet been announced.

What country did “the Fresno man” Sunil Sunil migrate in from?

Did he register to vote when they gave him his Cali DL?

It’s California. Anything under 950 drunk driving manslaughters is reclassified as misdemeanor assault.

It’s (Red) Fresno County not the S.F Bay Area , L.A. or Sacto...Fresno County is among the county leaders in DUI convictions.

We probably will not have many people defending him because he is not a young female with ample boobies but we probably will have some.

Here are some excuses for drunk drivers who kill they have used in the past.

Everybody does it.

Why are you trying to ruin their life over a mistake.

It is the fault of the people who did not teach them how to drive drunk safely.

And of course, it is the fault of the people that he killed for being where he could kill them.
