The American presenter Tucker Carlson has claimed Britain would have been better off losing the Second World War to an incredulous Jacob Rees-Mogg – but says he is not a Nazi supporter.
The US commentator was widely mocked after his most recent episode of the Tucker Carlson show, featuring former Tory minister Mr Rees-Mogg, aired last night.
In the online show, Mr Carlson claimed Britain 'destroyed their empire and their country fighting this war that they still pretend was a good idea but it wasn't'.
The former Fox News presenter – who once described Darryl Cooper, a Holocaust denier, as 'the best and most popular historian in the United States' – asked Mr Rees-Mogg if the UK had benefited from fighting the Second World War.
He then asked if Britain was 'a better country than it was' after winning the war.
Mr Rees-Mogg replied that the Second World War represented 'the classic good versus evil' war and said that 'we did the right thing'.
He said Britain was a better country 'to have defeated Hitler' and that 'otherwise we'd be speaking German'.
Mr Carlson then said that there are a 'lot of people' who are unable to speak English in Britain, arguing it would 'at least be nice' to have a 'European language' spoken in the UK if Germany had won the war.

The UK did not open the gates to the Third World because Hitler lost. All those yhings happened decades later. If anything, Hitler’s war gutted the UKs wealth and cost her a bunch of colonies, and softened the economy for socialism.
Britain wasn’t going to hold on to that empire forever, and their economic position would be hurt as Germany took over Britain’s foreign markets. Would they really have been better off years later if they hadn’t fought?
Give Tucker a few weeks and he will deny he even said that.
An argument can be made that the world would have been better off had Germany won WW1. But Auschwitz and the Einsatzgruppen negate any such argument regarding WW2.
Tucker Carlson and Pat Buchanan think differently. Folks like that are morally bankrupt.
For those not in the know:

Side point: I used to be a big fan of Pat Buchanan. But then he argued that Britain and France should have just given Hitler Poland. I guess Pat forgot that Hitler broke every agreement he entered into.
Listen to people and they will tell you who they are.
Tucker is cuckoo for cocoa puffs.
Good points!
MotherTucker has lost his mind.
ThecUK began to die with Atlie, and then sealed th deal by ignoring Enoch
Nope. Hitler wanted Britain as an ally.
Had Britain stayed out of the war, and Hitler attacked Russia, the war in the east might have lasted longer. It might even have ended in a stalemate.
Russia would not have occupied Europe. Naziism would have collapsed after Hitler, much as Falangism collapsed after Franco. Communism might have collapsed before 1991.
Third World colonialism would still have ended, perhaps a bit later and not so violently. Nor might there be a flood of Third World immigrants into Europe.
Nobody would be speaking German outside Germany, much like nobody spoke Russian outside Russia despite Soviet occupation.
The British Empire bankrupted itself by going to war to defend Poland. Their empire collapsed and the remaining British leaders let themselves be invaded by the 3rd world.
Poland was given to the Soviet Union. Britain entered WW2 to defend Poland, then gave Poland away. https://t.co/3cfEdQTybA— Wall Street Mav (@WallStreetMav) October 3, 2026
Cucker supports anyone who kills Jews.
We inject them with Y. Pestis and only treat them with stuff available in 1940.
The mental gymnastics you go through to support killing Jews is amazing.
The Germans just needed to pretend that they were Muslim refugees.
The bonus would have been that the Brits would have made their little girls available to the Germans.
Pat didn’t have all his oars in the water either.
You do remember how climbing in bed with crazy man ended for Stalin?
But sure. Hitler just wanted to be "friends".
The UK might have been better if they lost to the USA... look at how we treated our then just recent enemies after we won. Japan and (West) Germany ended up better off than the UK.
