You Really Don’t Want Democrats To Win The Midterms
American Thinker ^ | 2 Oct. 2026 | J. Robert Smith

The midterms are about more than Trump, Iran, and the price of gas. They reflect an ideological shift among Democrats that could permanently change America’s trajectory.

So, you’re thinking about sitting out the midterms. Or you might just vote Democrat to protest. The Iran war has dragged on too long, you say. Months rather than weeks hardly make it Vietnam, though. Casualties are minor. Consider: Iran with nuclear weapons would be an uber-terror state. It would pose a 24/7 threat to U.S. security. Victor Davis Hanson is right: Breaking Iran is a gift, yet hard to appreciate now. Higher gas, diesel, and grocery prices are chewing up your budget. No argument. But relief is coming.

The midterms are playing out in a broader context. They’re threshold elections for Democrats. They’re crossing over into socialism. When you appreciate how extreme their agenda is about to become, maybe it would be wise to temper your disgust with Trump and Republicans? For Democrats, there’s no turning back.

Democrats aren’t merely jumping the shark. They’ve been moving left since Woodrow Wilson. Once venerated, Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson are thoroughly reviled by the rank and file. JFK was an outlier.

Full-throttle socialism is Democrats’ logical destination. And not years from now. With socialism comes rigid top-down governance. “Collective” rights over individual rights. Less is more mantras. A potential climate “holocaust” -- unending kudos to grifter Al Gore -- makes draconian economic policies mandatory. Do you appreciate how “greens” have hobbled Germany’s economy?

The vanguard, for the benefit of us witless masses, must impose everything from values to personal conduct. China’s ever-evolving surveillance state is a model for American leftists. Flock cameras are a beachhead. Big Brother must watch. Social deviants are to be punished.

Democrats are experiencing generational change, which means sharper conflicts

The Trump haters should chose very carefully.

“You Really Don’t Want Democrats To Win The Midterms”

Well, I do, because my Senator is a RINO, and Democrats (even if they’re Socialists or Communists) are still better than RINOs because they didn’t lie to me to get elected.

Did I get that about right, Purists?

I’d like to see more advertising from Republicans.

What I hear: Democrats have no money, but Republicans are sitting on a mountain of cash.

What I see: Endless Democrat commercials, with absolutely no response by Republicans.

I’ve noticed that, as well. Here in Illinois, especially.

If Democrats win the in the midterm elections, 1984 is right around the corner.

I’d like to see more results from the do-nothing-but-spend republicans and they wouldn’t need more advertising. You’re right though, I’m in a deep red area area surrounded by other red counties and all I see is 3rd party advertising attacking republicans. Odd.

The GOP has always believed in letting the Democrats spend early, calculating that their money was wasted because voters don't start paying attention until the final weeks.

In an age of stolen elections blessed by bipartisan "gentleman's agreements", it may be necessary to tweak this strategy.

Most Americans are unsure just what “breaking” means here. The definition seems to change with some regularity. Nevertheless, it’s an important point. But most voters don’t look that far ahead. They’re focused on today’s grocery bill and today’s gas prices.

It would be nice if the GOP ran ads to counter that thinking. But what those ads would say, I’m not sure.

Yes, in fact, you do want them to win. That is, you want that if you are the Bush wing of the party. The Bush wing, as it always has, wants to sabotage this and turn to the GOP voters and say:

“see, we told ya so”

Then, they will present one or two Presidential candidates claiming that the only way to win is to support them.

Welp, I hope that they understand this. Nobody is going to support the Dem lite, managed decline wing of the Party ever again. So, sabotage away. We see through it and have for some time now. I don’t care what some bald guy with a white board says. We see through it.

That's all Democrat's do is lie, cheat and steal.

I’m with you, for sure. I HATED having arguments with people who were more interested in PUNISHING their elected Senator/Congressman than keep what are now PURE COMMUNISTS from seizing power in DC. One woman was simply UNABLE to understand the difference between living in a state run by Communists, Massachusetts in her case, and the thought of living in a Communist COUNTRY, run by an American version of Stalin, or worse. She was SURE everything would work out under a Stalin type (I don’t know she also killed her children, by the way).

For those guys, the Purists - please support the RINOs if they are the only people in position to keep the Communists out of power, then deal with them AFTER they’re out of office, if you really want to go there.

All republicans had to do was the job; represent their voters. They absolutely failed to do so.

We have heard the same thing every election for 40 years. The problem is the republicans never produce.

The people they lost don’t read Freerepublic, they are the gen z and millennials that voted for the first time in 2024. They walked away over a year ago, and I doubt they will ever vote again.

Republicans did this to themselves and us.

I once thought as you do now, and there are few people I despise more than RINOs. However, a RINO is in it for self-enrichment, while a 'true believer' Democrat is in it to wreck the Constitution itself. I believe the RINO's blast radius is far smaller than that of radical Democrats.

Also, RINOs tend to do that which is amoral, without it being illegal. Democrats love to cross into illegality.

Just look at the topics that are not being blocked on YouTube and social media that were being heavily blocked under Biden - it's night and day.

Do you really prefer living under a police state in which you can't express yourself? If so, you might want to check out the UK.

The ideological shift is a cliff at this point. As bad as Democrats are this point in time, they will be 10x worse in 2 years.

Republicans will tepidly fight this shift, and settle for being dragged slightly more left with the Dems.

Remember when Republicans were against “gay marriage?” I can barely remember.

RINOs have ruined the once-great Republican Party. No doubt about that.

But every RINO in the House of Representatives will vote for a House Republican leadership. Same goes for the Senate. That is a very important point, and should not be underestimated.

Today’s Democrats are not the same as the Democrats from 50 years ago. Give them control of Congress, and they will push for a radical agenda like nothing we have seen before.
