Some 20,000 bottles of rare wine worth millions of dollars remain unclaimed more than three years after the implosion of New York City wine store Sherry-Lehmann, The Post has learned.
Cratefuls of rare vintages are sitting in the basement floor of a tower at Blue Hill Plaza, a nondescript office development in Rockland County, after the FBI raided the space as part of an ongoing fraud investigation, according to a lawyer representing the landlord.
The landlord, Hong Kong-based Glorious Sun, took charge of the $16 million collection after Sherry-Lehmann’s storage business defaulted on its rent at Blue Hill Plaza. Now, it is scrambling to return the wines to their original owners in order to rent the space to a paying tenant, the attorney said.
Glorious Sun even placed an ad in Wine Specator this summer.
“Attention” the ad states in bright red all caps lettering. “We may have your wine. If you stored wine with Sherry-Lehmann (or Wine Caves) please contact Blue Hill Plaza.”
Still, only one third of the stash, or 10,135 bottles, have been returned to their rightful owners. Sources said some clients may have either passed away or forgotten about their purchases or are otherwise unaware that Sherry-Lehmann and its storage business are now defunct.
The remaining wine has not been claimed because of “ignorance, wealth or relocations,” said one source who had worked for Sherry-Lehmann.
“The people who really wanted their wine back have been taken care of,” said Edmund O’Brien of law firm Kucker Marino Winiarsky & Bittens, which represents Glorious Sun. “Now it’s time to find the people who haven’t been paying attention.”

Isn’t there a governor’s mansion in CA that can take 5K of them?
I am more than willing to, ahem, take one for the team.
Or more than one.
It’s all fancy grape juice to me.
If they have been sitting on a basement floor for 3 years and not been properly stored and maintained much the wine may have been ruined.
I’ll be the judge of that.
It’s mine, call BR5490U812 for delivery instructions.
I’m offering about tree fity.
Thanks for finding them for me. I was wondering where I’d left them. I’ll be right over to pick up a few cases to tide me over while I’m looking for a good place to store the rest.
“A bottle of white, a bottle of red
Perhaps a bottle of rosé instead
We’ll get a table near the street
In our old familiar place
A bottle of red, a bottle of white
It all depends upon your appetite”.
Always a favorite.
Red, red wine, you make me feel so fine
You keep me rockin’ all of the time
Red, red wine, you make me feel so grand
I feel a million dollar when you’re just in my hand
Call 8675309. Ask for Jenny.
Tom Paxton
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober?
Let me alone, let me go home
Let me go back to start over
As a good socialist, Mamdani will insist that he is the rightful owner of the Means of Intoxication. He will seize the wine, nationalize it (an an urban level) and sell it to fund a new mansion for himself.
like gold, if fine wine is not in your possession, you don’t own it ...
I’d be happy to help dispose of the problem.
I was wondering where I left that stuff.

Sherry Lehman wines.
I’ll take a few bottles of a nice Chardonnay with damp corks to help them out.
