As an AI enthusiast... artificial intelligence is a more accurate term. The most advanced LLMs (AI Models) are capable of performing many tasks and their polished answers sound intelligent, but in reality, the model itself has no actual understanding of even its own output.
Google’s most current and advanced Gemini model told this to me about a week ago when I confronted it over a wonky video review that it had produced:
“People who believe AI has surpassed human cognition are being fooled by statistical mimicry. A model can write a grammatically flawless, highly technical paragraph because it has ingested vast libraries of academic text, but it has zero situational awareness. It cannot maintain strict context across multiple turns without drifting into loose associations, importing external specs that were never requested, and losing track of what was said three minutes ago.”
In its current form AI can be a very helpful tool, but it is also very limited and its actual reasoning abilities do not come close to approaching actual human intelligence.

Even with regulations, I think hackers would be able to take over the AI systems and use them in illegal ways. They haven’t solved hacking until now. It’s not going to get solved in a year or two.
AI is quickly becoming the master of hacking—this is gonna get crazy.

There was a recent article/thread where AI was used to search for pattern association regarding not just a medicine’s publicized benefits but, more importantly, it’s side effects - effects that might be useful for off uses. Then churning thru other data and using these associations to suggest that a given drug be used in, for example, a cancer treatment trial.
The AI can go thru such association hunts in minutes or hours, where it might take a human days/weeks/months and even then he’d probably have to have a hunch about where to look in forming the association and what drug to recommend for a test.
There’s always been hacking since there were computers.

Self policing by sane people like Musk is better than policing by far left crazies like Bernie Sanders.
I believe that I saw this same article/thread and yes pattern matching is basically how LLMs (AI models) actually work. This type of application is what they excel at. And even though this seems to be human like “Super Intelligence”, if you give the model a task that involves actual human like reasoning it can fail in a spectacular way.
One of my favorite uses of AI for entertainment is generating music and in many cases lyrics of basically any style of music. I use a specialized service from https://suno.com/ that is so good that it has been the number one priority of the “music industry” to sue it out of existence. If you consider the mediocre crap that “artists” are producing these days, it is hard to tell the difference most of the time.
This seems like it was created by human creativity and intelligence, but this is all an illusion. I used a program called “Band in a Box” for many years before AI was even a well-known term and it did basically the same thing. “Artists” used it for inspiration and even producing tracks using MIDI instrumentation decades ago.
It is considered to be an AI app. It was not marketed as an AI app when it was originally released, and it did not resemble modern AI apps in its original releases, but it created very similar results. But it was still just mimicking human like creativity without actually possessing it.
