An extremely venomous and potentially deadly Gaboon viper was recently spotted loose in a residential area of Orange County, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
The viper was most recently seen near the intersection of Main Street and Edinger Avenue in Santa Ana.
“Gaboon Vipers are highly venomous and are not native to North America,” Santa Ana PD announced on social media Monday. “We are asking the public to please be aware of your surroundings. If you see the snake, DO NOT approach or attempt to handle it.”
Gaboon viper are native to Central, East and West Africa, and are commonly found on the forest floor, according to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. Gaboon vipers can grow to more than 6 feet in length and are known to eat small and medium-sized mammals and birds.
“Gaboon vipers are passive hunters, waiting concealed to strike at whatever small creatures pass within range,” Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute website reads. “Most snakes strike and release, but this viper holds on until its prey dies.”
The snake spotted in Santa Ana is estimated to be approximately 4 to 5 feet long.

A dangerous viper in Santa Ana? I didn't think the 43rd Congressional District went that far south.
You know we don’t post mugshots of those from African descent.
Lol! Time to go to Target and buy one of those Pixelation machines!
How the eff did it come to be in the country illegally?

There are a lot of idiots these days who think having an extremely dangerous animal is cool. Then it bites them or gets away.
Then who’s gonna eat the Honey Badger?
Yes, and don’t approach or attempt to handle them either.

Thanks for the advice. I wouldn’t think of approaching one of them.

Jeff Foxworthy tells his recent incident of stepping on a snake. 14 minutes, pretty funny. Especially if you are a man and married.
Our battery commander, Capt. Fred Carr was just getting up out of his tent and saw the snake and yelled "shoot it, you dumb sonofabitch!" so I fired and killed it.
Years later, I met retired Illinois Superior Court judge Carr at his Virginia Beach home to reminisce, and he said he remembered that incident, saying "shoot that snake Marine". My memory's more accurate.

He just looks nasty and mean.
Looks like James Carville.
