One of the tragedies of blacks in America is their extraordinary loyalty to the Democrat Party. Few seem to recognize the peculiar dynamic involved: The Democrat Party desperately needs black votes, yet too often its activists speak about black Americans in ways that reflect the unbelievably plantation-style soft bigotry of low expectations.
A recent tweet has resurrected an old Ami Horowitz interview at UC Berkeley, where he asked a group of white, left-wing college students whether blacks face particular hurdles when it comes to voting. Their answers are breathtakingly paternalistic.
Again and again, these students assume that black Americans lack the knowledge, resources, or ability to do things that they themselves take for granted. An Antebellum plantation owner would have spoken in the same terms about his slaves’ intelligence and abilities.(snip)
Into this environment steps Nicki Minaj, one of the most prominent black entertainers in America. To her credit, and showing great courage, she has increasingly shown a willingness to challenge political orthodoxies that many celebrities would never dare question.
...“We’re not allowed to voice concerns, to make an argument as to why we don’t like a particular candidate.”
“They’re seeing in real time, if they do, what happens to them. Smear campaigns and just outright nasty behavior from these adults. It just doesn’t look good.”

Considering Minaj is “one of the most influential rappers if all time,” it matters that she is rejecting the idea that black Americans owe automatic allegiance to one political party. She is urging people to think independently rather than allowing politicians, activists, or cultural gatekeepers to tell them what they are supposed

I have been exposed to northeastern liberals and southerners all my adult life. The most bigoted people I have ever met are from the northeast.
White liberals love black people - as long as those black people are being bussed to other people’s schools and live in/near other people’s neighborhoods. In other words, they love it when inner city blacks and other hoodlums are somebody else’s problem.
Yes, they want the free stuff, but they really want the preferential treatment, the attention, the singling out, however you want to call it or look at it. It’s almost like the old impotent joke. They want to be important and being treated equally does not make them important. So they gravitate to the people who do not treat them equally regardless of how those people are towards them.
I’m racist. Work a black riot and tell me that your beliefs don’t change...
Northeastern liberals will righteously wag their fingers at anyone who makes a politically incorrect remark or joke about black people, while not they themselves have usually never so much as interacted with a single black person in their lives and would flee their neighborhoods the second a black person moved in.
In contrast, many Southerners will tell racial jokes and make negative (but often accurate) generalizations about black people, but have no problem interacting with, working with, or befriending individual black people.
Unfortunately, public perceptions are based on who keeps up appearances rather than on reality.

Democrat party has worked many years to keep it that way for votes alone.

Who is “they”? The Democrats favor collectivism..collecting individuals into groups of “they”.
Republicans, MAGA favor individualism where “they” does not exist as a nebulous non-specified group.
When I moved to Democrat Chicago the first thing I noticed was that everything was blamed on “they” and “them”. Nobody could explain who “they” was.
