It isn’t anything close to the Louisiana Purchase, or the Mexican American War results, or Texas, or the Alaska Purchase, but I see it as the biggest related thing since those, and a modern version of such.
Look at a world map. It should be a part of the USA...at least as a territory.
Sometimes, in an effort to support President Trump, people over-exaggerate the significance of a deal.
While the Greenland Deal is important, it is UNLIKE the Louisiana Purchase.
The Louisiana Purchase was a sovereignty transfer: France ceded 828,000 square miles of territory to the United States in 1803. Trump’s Greenland deal, by contrast, explicitly preserves Danish sovereignty and Greenlandic self‑determination.
The Greenland Deal:
Amends and supplements the 1951 U.S.–Denmark defense treaty rather than replacing it.
Expands U.S. basing rights (e.g., Pituffik modernization, new bases at Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig).
Grants the U.S. a veto over certain foreign investments in Greenland’s critical sectors.
Adds new categories of military access (e.g., unmanned installations, undersea access).
States no sovereignty is transferred — a point Denmark and Greenland emphasized repeatedly.
This is control without ownership — a defense‑access expansion, not territorial acquisition.
Greenland’s government stated that its constitutional future “belongs to Greenlanders alone.”
A purchase or annexation is politically impossible.
It is a strategic defense agreement layered onto a 75‑year‑old treaty, giving the U.S. expanded military access and influence — but no territory.
True. I’d go as far as to say it’s not as much of what we think as it is what OTHERS think of it. How many people out there do things just to impress people? I’m impressed. For one it doesn’t cost anything and Denmark underneath it all is jealous and angry.

Yes, I’ve always assumed we took the prime latitudes of the continent, and Mexico and Canada were simply what we didn’t bother taking. Now, we are reconsidering and realizing we want more control of those areas, even if only to make sure they are serving their purpose as a buffer. In retrospect, we probably should have claimed everything as territories at the earliest opportunity.
Certainly, it was not wise to win our independence from England and then leave such a large neighbor to the north still beholden to the crown.
Mexico needs to be a territory for a different reason - the crime there is infecting us.
None if them should become states - just territories.
Greenland is key to our shift to hemispheric defense. . We don’t need to win/govern it to exploit it..
True. Every world leader knows it but Trump’s the only one acting on it. Greenlanders need to be rewarded. A 30 day R & R in the middle of winter should be offered to it’s 56k citizens. Let one third of them visit tropical Guantanamo Bay where 21,000 Haitians were once held. A working vacation to help out when Cuba falls. Facetious yes but we’ve earned the right to spike the football.
Next the 165,000 Somalis, 80% of which are on welfare. Deposit their welfare checks in a Somali bank and make them go get it. No electronic transfers. There are now 2 Somalias so they can choose.

Greenland's total area: 0.836 million square miles (2.17 million km2).
Continental U.S. (which, by definition, includes Alaska): 3.7 million sq. miles (9.6 million km2)
Contiguous U.S. (which excludes Alaska; i.e., the Lower 48): 3.12 million square miles (8.1 million km2)
Greenland is thus well under one-quarter the size of the continental U.S. - though it is slightly more than one-quarter of the contiguous U.S.
A gross exaggeration to say that it is one-third the size of even only the Lower 48!

Think Hawaii. Addition by subtraction. Our ace up the sleeve is the Native Hawaiians. They were there first.
How that happened, I’ll never know. It really doesn’t make much sense...except we had a big military base there.
They own the house, but they just made the 800 pound gorilla part owner and gave him a key.
But are we going to send settlers there who will build great cities?
However at this point there are no “native” or full Hawaiians left.

I agree. I’ve said to many in the past pay illegals in the currency of their country of origin and see how fast they leave.
